Hello mosports world, been awhile since I've been on here.

Last year I got crucified for not picking Webb at the top of the conference..

1. Carthage - They do lose a lot of seniors, but return their top receiver who is a very good player. Still a lot of talent returning here with a new winning culture developing.
2. Webb City - I believe if the QB position improves over last year, they will win the conference, but until we see it on the field, I'll give Carthage the nod.
3. Nixa - Down year for them last year, solid bounce back candidate.
4. Willard - Has been very tough for several years now, much better than their record showed last season, I think they'll win more close games.
5. Carl Junction - Loses a lot of that defense, still has Zeke Wall and Ray Weston.
6. Ozark - Foundation built for a solid team, but graduation hit this team very hard.
7. Branson - Looked much improved at times last season, expect them to pick up a couple more wins this upcoming season
8/9. Republic/Neosho - Predicting the head coaching change hits both of these schools hard, especially Neosho

Feel free to give your predicted standings or thoughts!

Last year was very difficult for me to predict because I didn't see any team as a favorite, including Webb City. The only thing I am confident about this year is that Webb City will be better than last year. Maybe not 15-0 better, but at least a contender for COC champion.

Everyone else - I don't really have a clue. Nixa may be poised for improvement after a couple disappointing seasons? Carthage is on a roll but I haven't heard much yet about their outlook this year. Neosho and Republic have new coaching. I could see CJ taking first, I could also see them sinking into the lower half of the pack. I remember reading that same assessment about Carthage last year. I really don't know enough yet about what most teams are losing/keeping/gaining to have any idea how they will perform.

Although I like WC, last year was one of the most entertaining seasons I can remember from an overall COC perspective. The opportunity for someone else to step up and claim dominion made for an unusual amount of high profile games in the area. My gut is telling me 2017 will be a more typical season with WC owning the COC. Carthage, Nixa, CJ, and maybe a TBD fight for 2nd, and everyone else jockeying below them.

dont have a clue on any other teams but i think Webb will take aa big step forward this year, and could be exceptional next year

I know you are trying to start a discussion but...

Carthage has been winning for a long time. They also went 8-1 at all 3 levels. They should continue to be really good. I believe they play Ozark and Webb first two weeks?
Webb - I agree
Ozark returns a lot actually, more than almost anyone else.
Nixa started 9 Seniors on both sides if I recall?
Willard has a good QB and WR back as well as a TE/DE beast.
CJ -Offense returns 9 guys and defense lost 9 guys
Branson lost as much as Nixa
Republic - new coach new system good QB not sure what else
Neosho - Has 3-4 all-conference players back but not sure what else?

I think it will be very top heavy with

1-3) Cathage, Webb, or Ozark at the top
4) CJ
5) Willard
6-9) Nixa, Neosho, Republic, and Branson

I struggle to believe CJ lost 9 starters on offense. We know they have Rayquion coming back (will be a junior). Their receivers weren't all seniors and their line was classified as young and experienced at the beginning of last season.

Lost QB but have another waiting to step in.

Anybody? Flint?

I read his post to say they have 9 starters returning on offense.

I'm seeing the loss of 5 starters on the D side of the ball for CJ. I'm not counting Safety Hunter Adams who was lost is the first game of the year against Webb with the knee injury.

Michael Elbert will be a big loss. The Weston brothers were both playmakers, and the other two defensive seniors were in on a lot of tackles.

In regards to Carthage, I meant more in terms of conference championships and deep post seasons over the past few years. My apologies for not wording it like tht. But yes definitely just wanting to start a good discussion when there's not much to talk about football wise

Maybe right...I remember all 4 LBs and 2 really good DBs were seniors.

Still waiting for Flint to describe how CJ will run the table and bulldoze a path of victims to the state title...

CJ might be able to do that in this state, but they should consider themselves lucky they dont play Ampipe! Missouri boys play some tough ball and its very respectable, but PA ball is on an entirely different level!

Willard has a ton of good skill players back, plus they always seem to churn out big, strong lineman. They lost several games last year but just a score or two. I think they will put up a nice win total this year.

I expect Carthage and Webb to be solid as usual, same from CJ.

Interested to see what happens at Republic in Baldwin's first year.

Webb City and Ozark will battle for the Conference Championship. Webb returns 8 of 11 on defense. All LBs. will return. CB will be much improved from last year. It will be tough to score on them. Sophomore QB from last year will probably get the nod. The 2 RBs that will start did not have fumble problems when they got their chances and neither did the sophomore QB. I would be shocked if WC is not playing for a state title due to their defense.

I am sure Flint has different plans......

I believe this year the rotation is back to Districts 5-6 quarterfinal playing the 7-8 in the semis so the survivor likely wins the C4 title game in Columbia. Up here I am most interested in not only defending champ Harrisonville but what David Allie has going in Grain Valley (easy to forget the Eagles won the MRVC West albeit during that Wildcats losing streak when they were battling injuries to key players). Brand new era beginning here in Kearney and Platte County returns some key contributors from last year...............but it is still 90+ days til we begin to find out.

Webb also got a transfer that will be a senior next year that is a QB, too. Good athlete.

It seems like Webb City gets a lot of athletes from Joplin. I know people like to say that WC recruits but think enough people voluntarily move into the district that there is no need to recruit. I know a handfull of people who have done just that. Just a few weeks ago I overheard someone at work saying their house in Joplin was for sale. When I asked why, he said it was just so they could move into WC for sports for their son. I often wonder how much, if any of an effect that has on Joplin. It's large enough I wouldn't think much, but who knows.

This happens all over the country. The only time it is a big deal is if it is PROVEN beyond a doubt kids are being enticed by HCs/staff members to move into their district(s). School choice (for lots of reasons other than athletics) is a coming big issue in our great Nation.

People move all the time. The mistake occurs when they volunteer information surrounding the move. Say nothing, move and show up. Things become complicated when the A.D./ Principal check the little box (moved for athletic reasons).

I still think it seems kind of weird to move just for sports but I guess i kind of get it if you are really into it, especially considering how easy it is to move a mile or two and cross the boundary. I wouldn't care so much about sports, but I would prefer my kid go to a high school of 1100 vs 2500. Not really sure it actually makes a difference but in my head it seems like a smaller school would make for a better experience. But admittedly I don't know that to be necessarily true.

I agree that the smaller the school the better the experience. It is harder to get lost in the crowd in smaller schools. I believe the number one reason to move to WC would be community support and academic performance. Football only accounts for about 10 percent of the high school population. Every student benefits from the academics.

In reference to a senior qb moving in and playing. Not going to happen. The offense has too many reads to make that kids practice from JH and still make mistakes.
