Here is something to discuss during thr winter off season:

Given that several of my wc friends have mentioned Ryan as (in their opinion) the most likely successor to Rod, I have to wonder if this is the first step of that process?

Coach Mcfarland is an amazing man and just as great of a coach. If he is the successor to Rod at Webb the program will be in good hands. I definitely didn't expect him to step down as the HC of Seneca though.

Thats because he was forced out. Going 3-7 this year and around 500 over all is not OK at tradition rich Seneca. Why else would he leave to take a position at Webb City he already held once.

I have heard he wasn't liked at Seneca. It is hard to believe he would ever get the Webb City job.

I highly doubt he was forced out at Seneca. McF and Rod go way back and from reading the article in the Globe it kind of makes me think this move has been in the works for quite some time. As in maybe the last few years were by design - gaining HC experience in an environment outside Webb City where he can learn (and lose) without being crucified. Several of my friends in WC have been tossing around his name for years as an eventual successor. I didn't really see it but this move kind of supports those theories.

His coaching resume on paper isn't overly impressive but he does know WC football as good as anyone and maybe Roderique would be more comfortable handing the reins over to someone who knows Webb City football more than someone with a history of winning somewhere else with a different system.

I have heard his name as a finalist or as someone who has applied for several other football jobs in the area the last 2 years. If this was always the plan, why would he do that?

Dang good point! I am usually in the loop on high school football and this is the first I am hearing of a Webb City master plan for replacing Big Rod!

My sources told me the only suitable replacement was Ditka, circa 1985.

Sounds like he went out and tried to prove himself as a winner and failed, it happens. Now Roderick is bailing out and old buddy. Bet there will be some big names apply at Webb if it ever comes open.
Very well could be. I don't know any more than anyone else, just that for years a number of my friends with varying levels of involvement and connection to Roderique and Co have said to watch for R Mac to eventually come back to Webb City to take the reins. He never seemed like an obvious candidate to me personally just because of what you are saying about failing to prove himself, at least at a level that would excite anyone from Webb City.

Who was the last head coach that Webb hired that even had a smidgen of previous high school head coaching experience at the time they hired him?

This is Seneca( not Stockton) guarantee you Coach Mac did a great job at Seneca, those of us who competed against him know that he did a great job, and it is unlikely that he was forced out. He is a product of the Webb City system and more than likely taking advantage of an opportunity which is a tremendous opportunity for him. Good Luck Ryan.

I was told that from the end of the season to when he took the job at Webb he didn't do the things with the football team at Seneca that he normally does and no one knew why.
