Turned out ok. Shildt must have seen something us fans didn’t. I had concerns as well. I guess we have to give him and Waino some credit.Absolute joke Waino was allowed to finish the 3rd. Then he hits for himself. Then Shildt head runs him out the for the 4th. I just don’t get this crap.
Only credit I’m willing to give is to the offense. They bailed out everyone involved.Turned out ok. Shildt must have seen something us fans didn’t. I had concerns as well. I guess we have to give him and Waino some credit.
Can’t argue with that other than didn’t Wainwright retire something like last nine he faced?Only credit I’m willing to give is to the offense. They bailed out everyone involved.
I think it was last 7 or 8. Blow up was in the 3rd and he went 5 inn. Just very results oriented thinking. Even Shildts comment in the post game was troublesome. When asked why he stuck with him...”He’s Adam Wainwright.” Well, that’s kinda the problem. He’s not Adam Wainwright pre Achilles injury. Which is when his decline really started. Can’t argue with that other than didn’t Wainwright retire something like last nine he faced?
Another interesting tidbit. Heard on TMA yesterday morning that when he came in after the 3rd, Maddux talked to him about trying to make pitches rather than trying to blow hitters away. Waino needs to swallow his pride and do this if he’s going to be effective. They referenced Andy Benes from ‘02 when the team sent him home in June because it just looked liked he was done. He came back in August after the rotation had seen a bunch of injuries. Traded for Finley at about the same time and Benes picked up the splitty from Finley. He was a totally different pitcher. Won the only game for the team when they got beat by the Dodgers 4-1 in the NLDS I think. Can’t argue with that other than didn’t Wainwright retire something like last nine he faced?
I hate to admit it ... retirement is knocking at Waino’s door. It may be time to answer the door. I watched Gibson hang around too long. Don’t want to see Adam do the same.Another interesting tidbit. And for whatever reason, some of these people are Cardinal management. It's extremely confusing how any baseball mind can watch him pitch and think he can keep a team competitive. Of course, these are the same people that keep sending Cecil out to the mound and allowing him to occupy a roster spot. For some reason, some people still think this is 2013 Wainwright......and I enjoy every start he makes.
If this was the Padres, Marlins, White Sox or Orioles......it would make senseAnd for whatever reason, some of these people are Cardinal management. Speaking of the splitter/forkball, why doesn't every pitcher in the game learn to throw that pitch? It is was, and still is, a devastating pitch for hitters to figure out. They can't layoff and they can't hit it anywhere.Another interesting tidbit. Its all about the $Starting Waino Sunday will save DeWitt $200,000 while keeping Ross in the bullpen, while he clearly would be the better choice. The optics of this decision is terrible even if it's not true. They keep saying Waino gave them a chance to win and I call BS on that. 4 runs in 5 innings is not giving your team a chance to win, it is putting your team in a terrible spot,
They will pay him whether he pitches or not, it better be all about winning unless and until they are eliminated. Its all about the $
