Classifications

The association has been announcing class and district assignments on the second Friday after the first day of practice. Example: First day of practice for softball and football is Monday, Aug. 10, so those class and district assignments should come out Friday, Aug. 21.

Yes, 6 classes. Private/charter schools no longer have the multiplier, but championship factor instead.

It is going to be very interesting. Its going to be a mixture of some schools very happy and others not so happy. I'm guessing girls volleyball is going to be a good indicator of what will come in basketball.

it seems like I read somewhere that MSHSAA wants a pyramid looking sample.

So, class 6 has the fewest teams and Class 1 has the most. Could be wrong, but seems like I heard or read that.

According to what MSHSAA sent out to schools this year, if they had done six classes this past season it would have looked like this.

1: 91 schools, 12-78 enrollment
2: 98 schools, 79-142 enrollment
3: 98 schools, 142-239 enrollment
4: 97 schools, 242-491 enrollment
5: 78 schools. 491-992 enrollment
6: 70 schools, 993-1855 enrollment

Did you factor in the co-ops?

That is directly from information MSHSAA sent to schools to show them how the 2019-20 season would have looked with six classes. Since it was MSHSAA providing the information I'd have to assume co-ops were included. The exact cut-offs will likely change a little based on enrollments, but surely the 2020-21 classifications will look pretty similar to how 2019-20 would have looked.

The Championship Factor will also come into play this year. I am sure IWA will be moved up to Class 6 but what other private/Charter schools will be moved up? Lincoln CP, St Pius (KC)? I would think Whitfield would also move up. They have all had some success over the last 6 years.

I thought I read somewhere they could only go up 2 classes that would put IWA in class 5 I think???

That is what I was thinking. Without multiplier I figured they would be class 3 then up to 5? They will be top 5 or higher no matter where they land.

Perfect example of why the classification needed to change. Incarnate Word Basketball Academy had no business in Class 4 with rural public schools from towns of 5,000 people.

And IWA would be very fine with moving up to class 6, nor will you hear one bit of belly aching from them because of it either I bet. One big difference I've notice about private schools, is that they teach their kids that great athletes want to play the best competition. Webb city teaches that kind of mind frame also. I think they too would be fine with moving up if it was allowed. In Indiana the championship factor is applied to all teams public and private.

I have also noticed they get to recruit those great athletes. So yes that is like AAU ball. If you have an all star team you should want to play other good teams that just makes since. Problem is the playing field is not even not everyone gets to pick the best in the area. You are not comparing apples to apples.

You're spare parts, arent ya bud. Webb City WOULD ABSOLUTELY NOT move up if given the opportunity. Come on, man.
You do understand for the most part higher class teams get recruited heavier than lower class teams. I said i believe webb city if forced to move up wouldnt be sitting around crying about it

Would enrollment be on a year by year basic or would be like a 5 year avg?
