Not much chatter in here right now...

Who are the teams to watch in Class 4 this season?

1. Webb City
...

Probably the usual suspects. Kearney, Helias, Harrisonville & Webb will slug it out in the west. Do not know much about the east but would assume Cape has the nod. I did notice Hannibal had some well regarded athletes on the 24/7 recruiting lists of 2016 kids.

If Jabril Cox is 100% Ray South is a team i wouldn't want to play in C4.

As you know, Fort, the kid has to stay healthy but MAN is he something................The Suburban Small Six will be very competitive with four teams (Kearney, Winnetonka, Ray South and Platte County) all entering 2015 with a case for being favored. Statewide, as noted a few weeks ago, my eye is on Helias Catholic. They have about as exciting a QB as you will find anywhere and the new coach is very intriguing considering what he did at South Callaway...........

The Helias schedule is brutal again playing 6 teams in Class 5 and Class 6. Can they stay healthy! On paper they will be better in the backfield on both sides of the ball, but the line will be the question and how quickly they can learn the new system.

Have been hearing a lot of good things coming from Harrisonville this summer. They may be ready to make some noise again.
Northland are you hearing anything from Platte County? Unless they've had key move outs I would suspect they will also be very much improved in 2015.

The WEBB CITY streak should continue. I said should because noone knows what injuries will occur throughout a season. If they stay healthy for the most part I dont see them losing to anyone. Once again outside of the tough COC conference they will be facing great competition in Rockhurst and Har-Ber. Second year starting WEBB CITY QBs have spelled doom for their competition and their backfield should be incredible. I mean that, incredible. They have atleast three kids to toss into the running back position that are beasts. If they get through week 2 and 3 unscathed they run the table for another undefeated State Championship. With that I am very interested in the Kearney/Winnetonka matchup on 9/25. Expect another slobberknocker like last year but should be the game that lets everyone know where Kearneys at.

Actually not likely. Tonka has a fantastic HC and staff but lost almost everything especially offensively from last year. Kearney is a big, big mystery this year. Actually how they fare right out of the gate vs. St. Joe Central, who was very young last year and the two Libertys will tell a lot. The only certainty is they do have probably the best LB around in Cale Garrett and a whale of a PK in Drew Goepferich.

TOP...quite a few unknowns in the Northland this season.

I really don't know what to expect from Kearney....although I suspect they will be very good as usual.

St. Joe Central did have some really promising young talent so wouldn't be surprised to see them take a step forward.

Losing a player like Doherty is a huge loss for Tonka and they'll also have to find a new qb with the graduation of Sabastiano. I'm curious to see if the young DB, Djimon Colbert gets time on the offensive side. He's the next D1 player out of Tonka.

I wouldn't look past Park Hill South. They have always had solid talent...and with a new coach you never know what to expect.

Liberty North also lost a lot of experience and need to find a new qb but they had some nice underclassmen last season.

I apologize for veering off the C4 topic in this thread. Can't wait for HS football!

I wouldn't count West Plains out this- year. Just my opinion. I believe they have almost everybody back from last years team that went 8-3. I'm thinking they have 8 starters back on offense and defense both. Half of which are all three year starters. They play up all year long almost, (only play one school that's 4A. Everyone else is 5 and 6.) Their 3 losses last year were all by 7 points or less. It'll be nice to see Webb have some competition in districts for once, that's for sure.

How did that playing up all year "almost" help them last year? Did CJ who plays mainly Class 3 and 2 schools out of the Big 8 not come into their house and soundly defeat them? You can play 10 class 6 school but if they an't very good you an't getting any better.

The last two seasons WC has beat a top 5 ranked team in the district finals. Heck CJ was probably the best class 4 team WC played except Helias in 2013.

I do like Platte this year for sure - really like some of their skill kids. They do return many from last year and rumor mill has some pretty quality young ones coming up that may be ready to play early

Webb could be pretty salty this year if we get a few holes filled.

Who will be No2 QB behind TyRod???

Webb gets through first three games healthy its cruise control until semifinals

Hey scout will definitely do! My favorite memory was the COOOOOOLD quarterfinal..................that one, like the Fort game the previous year, was an instant classic vs. Helias Catholic.

what about william chrisman in class 5 i have heard they should be improved

Here's my predictions give or take on Class 4.....
Feel free to correct any inaccurate information on any given team

1. Webb City- obviously, going for their 6th straight title. May not have the same caliber of weapons as they have the past few years, but still going to be the team to beat throughout all classes

2. Harrisonville- got spanked by Webb 35-0 at the end of their season last year, but they are loaded in the skill positions on offense. QB returns, as well as top 3 rushers, and #2 receiver from last year, who had almost as many yards as their number 1

3.Affton- they return their entire backfield, QB, top RBs, lost big all-state receiver and OL, but the lack of competition in the STL area will play to their advantage, look for them to make a deep run from a team that finished 13-1 last year losing only to Cape in the semis

4. Helias- They return arguably the best playmaking dual threat QB in Class 4 in Fadoul, along with him they return their #1 RB, but with a new coach and losing an 2-way playmaker in Hentges there's still some questions there

5. Carl Junction- I believe they return 16 starters from an 11-1 campaign last year. Lost their biggest offensive weapon with the graduation of Scheurich and without teams having to plan away from that big bad LB who's at K-state now, they're gonna be a different team this year, but loaded with experience that puts them this high on the list

6. West Plains- return arguably the best pure passer in Class 4 at QB. Their #1 RB went down early in the season last year, but he's back, as well as the #2 RB and two BIG receivers and almost the entire offensive line. Still some questions on defense with graduation of all-state LB and DE, but as I just said, the experience will win out.

7. Mexico- I was as surprised as everybody when I put them on this list. They return 2 1,000 yd rushers, their QB, and most of their line from a 9-3 campaign last year highlighted by their win over Hannibal in the district Semis. They played Hannibal twice last year, losing by 1 point the first go round and winning by 7 in districts. They have to play in a district with Helias, but look for Mexico to make some noise again this year in Class 4

8. Platte County- A year from now I would have them in top 3 probably with as much young talent as they have coming back, but they'll have to earn that. Losing their top receiver, but bring back everybody in the skill department. Should do well this year, but just not well enough to be higher on this list.

9. Kearney- Other than Webb City, they probably have the best tradition in Class 4. Lost just about all their notable skill players from last year to graduation but Kearney somehow always finds a way to reload.

10. ???? Hannibal?, St. Charles West?, Raytown South?, Bolivar?, Cape Central?, I couldn't come to a decision on these..

Any thought as to whether class 4 might be down a little this year from possible the past Couple of years.

WEBB will look different in the passing game because of losing Kiantes speed but he still only had 32 catches. A little more than 2 per game average. TROD will be back at the helm as QB and with a year under his belt should in all likelyhood be better. Rushing will without question be as good if not bettter(overall#s). I think the only noticeable difference may be seen in the defensive backfield but coach Smith has had that problem before and seems to always find ways to counter that. I also dont see Hville over Kearney and CJ at 5 seems very very high to me. Yes they went 11-1 last season but I believe only played 2 class 4 teams, West plains whom they beat by 7 @CJ and WEBB whom they lost to by 30.

Now THAT warmed my heart.
Here.
We.
Go.
:D

Several years maybe decades, after going to Seneca and watching Seneca beat Monett very soundly I might add, I turned on my radio for the drive home. I happen to come across the Seneca broadcast, and those two were talking about how good Seneca looked beating a decent Monett team, and saying how Tom Hodge will probable get on the radio and down play the huge victory.
Sure enough Tom got on the radio and started talking about the win, the radio guys were talking about how good the running back looked as he ripped of several 80 yard toss sweeps. Old Tom shoot back and said well what you didn't see is we had about 4 missed blocks on two of those runs, against a bad team like that you can rip off a few runs and miss some blocks, against the better teams if you miss 4 blocks you will be tackled for a loss. He went on to talk about how hard it is to correct the kids on Monday when they are winning big against bad teams on Friday night, versus winning or even losing a close game to a good team.
Even though it was my beloved Cubs he was talking about that night, what he said was right, if you go out and beat a bad team and don't have to play fundamental football you are never going to get better. Hard to coach a kid up on what he is doing wrong when no matter what he does, you still win big.
