With two-thirds of the regular season complete, district pictures are beginning to take shape. In Class 4, two districts (5 and 8) are looking particularly strong. For District 5, I see it like this.
1 Webb City will run the table and earn the first seed with their 9-0 record.
2 Carl Junction appears primed to finish 8-1 and earn the second seed, losing only to Webb City in week one.
3 I think West Plains will finish 7-2 and despite having a lower district rating, the Zizzers will be awarded the third seed in a swap with Camdenton who they beat head to head (25-24).
4 Camdenton truly could finish anywhere between 8-1 and 6-3 with Joplin and Glendale left on their schedule, but either combination leaves them with the third or fourth highest district rating. The swap with West Plains due to head-to-head gives the Lakers the fourth seed.
5 The Hillcrest Hornets will claim 5th. However, with games left at Parkview and Joplin and home with Rolla, the 3-3 Hornets could finish a very respectable 6-3. Regardless, it seems to me like they are a lock for the 4/5 game.
6 and 7 seeds go to Bolivar and McDonald County in either order, as it’s hard to tell whether Bolivar will win much in the final three weeks.
8 seed – Marshfield.
District First Round Matchups
Marshfield at Webb City – adios Blue Jays.
Carl Junction and West Plains will dispose of Bolivar and Mac County, setting up a district semi-final meeting at Carl Junction between the ‘Dogs and Zizzers.
Hillcrest will visit Camdenton in what would seem like a pretty tough draw for the Lakers, who as I say could potentially be 8-1 at that point.
Most likely district final: Carl Junction (10-1) at Webb City (11-0)
