2010 MISSOURI CLASS 3

DISTRICT FOOTBALL BREAKDOWN

Week 8 Notes

Cardinal Ritter entered district play ranked and as the
favorite in district No. 4, however it was Berkeley who earned
the 14-13 victory and a leg up on the district title.

If you like exciting comebacks then Ste. Genevieve
is your team. Down 35-18 early in the fourth quarter of their district
opener the Dragons scored 20 points to earn a 38-35 victory. Junior quarterback
Brendan Wieler connected on 30-of-42 passes for 452-yards and 4
touchdowns, he also rushed for a score in the victory.

Quietly this season Richmond continues to win in impressive
fashion. In week 8, the Spartans earned a 64-13 victory over Odess to improve to
8-0. Landon Walker and Gabe Vandiver each
scored three touchdowns in the victory. Vandiver scored on runs of 20, 65,
and 84-yards.

Owensville struggled, but defeated Salem
28-17 to advance to 1-0 in district play and place themselves in the drivers
seat to the district title. At 7-1 the Dutchmen remain firmly placed in
the MOsports Power Poll.

Southern Boone scored 92, yes 92 not a
misprint, points in a 92-28 victory over Missouri Military. In case you
are wondering 92 ties for third place all time in MSHSAA single game scoring.
The record of 138 points game in a 138-0 victory for Lincoln Prep over Northeast
in 1985.

Week 9 Showdown Games

7-1 Wright City will visit 6-2
Bowling Green
for a game the holds district 5 title, as well as EMO
conference implications. A season ago Bowling Green earned a 44-22 victory in a
non-conference game. This year as Wright City moves up to Class 3 the game
takes on new meaning. A key for both teams will be the play of
Wright City senior running back Trent Davis, a 2,000 yard
rusher who has scored 26 touchdowns for the Wildcats.

Logan Rogersville(6-2) will visit
Ava
(5-3) in what should be the district title game in district No. 9.
Meanwhile nearby in district 10, a pair of teams that have been ranked among the
state's elite in Class 3 for most of the season will battle for the conference
title. Springfield Catholic(7-1) will visit
Aurora
(6-2).

Missouri River Valley Conference foes meet in district 15.
Richmond(8-0) will visit 6-2 Oak Grove in a
key contest. Oak Grove must find a way to stop the Spartan running game
that has been dominant in recent weeks.

St. Pius X (5-3) visits Maryville(6-2) in a key district 16
test.
