Just curious, but what is the advantage (or disadvantage if there is one), on playing a district game on Saturday, like some of the teams listed above, vs. starting at the beginning of a new week

In some areas it has to do with the availability of officials. A lot of the Class 4 & 5 schools do the same thing.

Another factor when considering playing on Saturday is weather. If you can play eight games in 1 day (4 boys, 4 girls) it free's up 2 more days during the week so if you have a day or two of weather you can still reasonably get games in without having teams play 2 or 3 nights in a row.

I asked a coach and this question and they said they would like it for scouting purposes. If they all played on the same night, they wouldn't have to go back an extra night to scout. Plus, they said if they win their district, they could possibly go scout the next district winner as well. So that makes sense; plus the weather statement and officials statement.

In some districts that are very spread out playing either 8 or at least 4 games on the first Saturday makes it a lot easier on spectators then trying to get to a game that starts at 4 or 5 on a weekday.
