Class 2

In the interest of good discussion and the absolute lack of any on this board lately, let's talk about class 2. There's currently six undefeated teams, and several with close losses to strong opponents. If you are from the area and can provide any insight please do. Let's not make this a trash talk thread.

1. Lamar. Appear solid as always, maybe one of their better teams? Can they be beat?

2. Fair Grove. Undefeated with several lopsided wins. Can they give Lamar a fight and win the district and more?

3. Hallsville. Also Undefeated with a weaker early schedule. Are they a factor? Can they run the table with Blair Oaks and solid Caifornia and Boonville teams in the next 4 weeks?

4. Ava. Another undefeated one, that looks to be improving each week. Thayer looms 10/8 but looks like a district title is highly likely. Can they go farther? Would face either Lamar or Fg in the qtr....

5. Butler. Yet another team without a loss, and eager to push farther than their qtr final loss in 2020.

6. Lafayette Co. 4-1 with their only mis-step being a week one L to a solid Penney team, and just handed Richmond their first loss. Will it be them or Butler at the top of District 5?

6. Lutheran St. Charles. Like many STL privates, they have a stellar top end and a former Ram's player as a coach. Will they be a factor?

7-10 Duchesne, Richmond, Bowling Green......Thoughts?

NR How in the heck does Maryville get no votes this week? One of the toughest schedules in class 2 with all of their losses coming higher class ranked ooponents....

Maryville and LSC are the only real threats based on talent to threaten Lamar.
FG, BG, Richmond, and Hallsville are good in their areas and have some good kids on the team. But not real good TEAMS. Maryville not receiving any votes is baffling and shows how little local people know this year and (ironically because I usually bash these kinds things) but how much more accurate Maxpreps is. But even they are low on Maryville. Duchesne is pretty bad Shouldn’t of been ranked at all.

Disagree with you somewhat with regard to Hallsville. Extremely well coached and the whole is better than the sum of the parts. Really good run defense but can they defend the passing game or RPOs? Doubtful that they have enough offense to get by B O or Boonville. California I haven't seen but probably a good game based upon personnel.

Only way Lamar loses is injuries. And they have some now! If healthy, everyone is playing for 2nd. And they will be even better next year! Next year could be 1 of their better teams ever!

That freshman team is something else. I watched what everyone thinks is their “best class” all through school. I didn’t want to say it up until this year. But they might be better. We shall see.

Lamar's junior class is loaded with high quality athletes for any level and their line on both sides will just maul you. Fair Grove has a really athletic senior class but their physicality will be the big question. The Mid-Lakes does not prepare them for meaningful postseason games. They did play Lamar close a couple of years ago, but I don't know if that will be the case this year.

Hallsville will have to beat Bowling Green to win their district, then would have the district 5 champ (Butler, Warsaw, or Lafayette Co). If they can win that, They would face the District 1/2 winner, which could be Lutheran St Charles, in the the semifinal. They could very will get to the semifinal or the championship game if they continue to play well. There sure seems to be a lot of energy and support there. Great to see! Even if they stumble to BO or Boonville, the experience gained could help prepare them for big playoff games.

Close? It was 50-25. Fair Grove came in 11-0 against a down year 9-2 Lamar. Historically, Fair Grove hasn't had near enough physicality to even come close. As stated above, their schedule doesn't lend itself to a meaningful post season. The other two meetings between these two teams were 61-0 in 2017 (FG was 9-2) and 53-0 (FG was 11-0) in 2016. Lafayette Co is in district 5 with Warsaw and Butler. Would either play Bowling Green or Hallsville, then LSC.

Oh yeah absolutely. If you only pay attention to rankings or media it doesn’t help either. A lot of it is that too. If they are 2nd then 3-10 must not be good at all. Which is why it’s absurd.

Lamar played D then. It was was very disciplined. But I feel we have actual defenders who don’t mostly rely on knowing assignments now. If you catch my drift and no disrespect. I just feel our Defense is actually really talented now. Our line play even with some being “small” is remarkable.

Springfield Catholic’s football program is a weird mess. I feel they should be better then this.

Lafayette Co/Higginsville has 2 really nice wins over Richmond and summit Christian. They should have a quality district game against butler. I’ll go LC just because their schedule seems to be much better than Butlers.

Butler is definitely not as good as last year. I’d take the same bet. Last year was their year if they were going to make any kind of racket.

Strafford was kind of what OU is out of the Big 12. Could score a lot and be considerably more athletic than anyone in their league, but once it comes time to play football in the trenches and handle speed with physicality they just couldn't do it.
