you thoughts on the pairings?

Class 2 Quarterfinals

Scott County Central/Thayer winner vs. Valle Catholic(20-8)

Gainesville(22-5) vs. Crane(27-2)

Canton(25-4) vs. Salisbury(28-0)

Sacred Heart(25-3) vs. Mid-Buchanan(28-1)

Scott County Central(23-4) will face Thayer(18-9) at 4:30 on Friday

I assume SCC and Thayer agreed to play back-to-back days. Doesn't seem fair to me with the travel. SCC has a 285-mile round trip this afternoon and tonight. Then if they win, they've got a 90-mile drive to Farmington tomorrow.

In Class 3, Charleston and NMCC don't have as far to go today, but the winner will have a very long trip--140 miles for NMCC--to get to Hillsboro tomorrow.

The two games together and the travel will take something out of their legs. Could definitely affect their shooting.

Seems they could move the quarterfinal for these teams to Monday or Tuesday to avoid the back-to-back games. In addition to the fatigue factor, there's not going to be much preparation by the coaches.

The burden shouldn't be on the teams in the rest of the state. They aren't the ones postponing games. The northern half of the state can drive in a few inches of snow without acting like it's an international event.

Not to mention the inch of ice underneath that. Most highways were good enough yesrterday for busses to run from school to school but the kids have to get to the busses and they don't all live on a highway. If you were the Super, Principal or AD would YOU take the risk of telling parents they had to get the their kids to the school so a basketball a game could be played on the right day?

So I guess you would be ok with it if somebody got hurt trying to get to the bus for a game on slick roads?

We'll assume you AREN'T in administration then and be thankful for that.

It's not a driving thing (although people do act kind of ignorant in inclement weather). It's an infrastructure thing. We aren't set up to deal with large snows and typically don't need to be. Add that to the fact that this was 12"+ across most of the area, which is considered a pretty significant snow even in the Great White Tundra of Kansas City.
