Saw St. Elizabeth last night. The 6-8 kid isn't half bad, in fact he is really good. He has a supporting cast that plays to him and hustles on defense. I picked wrong on six of 8 games last night. I was really shocked that South Iron lost to Risco, not sure if they still had their best player out or not. Many of the games were close, but no cigar for some of them. Makes for an interesting tournament. I might be tempted to go to the finals if this keeps up.

Looked like SI had all their kids, at least the one I assume is their best player did play. If memory serves me well, which it doesn't always do, it seemed to me that SI didn't rebound real well and committed and ill advised foul up 4 with 15.5 seconds left in OT to allow Risco to cut it to 1 point instead of letting him score and keep the clock running or make Risco use a TO and still have a 2 point lead. Then Risco got a turnover on the inbounds play and scored to take a 1 point lead. SI had about 10 seconds left but did not get off a good shot at the buzzer. Risco played very well most of the game and did what they needed to do to get the W. Somebody may have a better memory of just how it went down but that's how it ended up for sure. SI has a young team and they will most likely be back in that position again next season.

Also experience in games like this with a big crowd and a great atmosphere takes some getting used to. Kids will relish doing it again and work hard to be sure to get back to that level. Something for them to look forward to for sure. I noticed St. Elizabeth had no seniors playing much of a role, so their big kids will all have that level of experience going for them. You can't teach 6-8. They will be a legit threat to go to the final four again next season.

Not an SI guy, but they got jobbed at the end of regulation by a bad call. Of course, as you describe, they also had a couple bad fouls and gave up a huge offensive rebound on a missed free throw late. They did have all of their kids last night, but are young and return a ton for 2 straight years coming up. Preseason top 3 next season easy.

Thanks for the report.

Remember seeing these kids as Freshman and thinking they’d make a couple Final 4s before it was all said and done. The bigger Heckemeyer kid (Brady I believe) is a bull as well. There was another kid in this Junior class that plays at Iberia now that one could argue would be the best player on this team as well. I don’t think there’d be any stopping them if he were still there.

Man you kinda bagging on the north teams:p

Wasn't too long ago they took #1 and #2

But really, do enjoy your insight.

Lol, I was kinda thinking the same. Last year’s ‘4th place team’ got there and ran into teams from schools with twice as many students. It’s a tough spot. It’d be interesting to see an enrollment breakdown on teams from each quarter. Just seems smaller schools are advancing outta the north.

Yeah, that was an unnecessary jab. I will say I grew up in that area, so at least I am a homer from that area. It's just a slower, more methodical type of basketball that usually relies on tight officiating. Doesn't serve well against the SEMO region, In my experience

I can’t be that specific...but I know my way around central/north central Missouri’s smaller school scene.
