Heck of a game. Great atmosphere. Playoff type atmosphere. Very tight in the fourth but Sikeston went cold and Chaminade hit their free throws to pull away.

Bucket, Chaminade has played a tough schedule and hit free throws and hit big baskets in the last minute of play to win games. I believe this help Chaminade defeat a good Sikeston team who have won most of their game without pressure of hitting big shots in the last minute of play. Sikeston may get another chance during districts, sectionals and quarters to hit big baskets and free throws in closing seconds of play or check their uniforms in and dream of what could have been.

Bucket and other, how many times this season has the Sikeston Bulldogs hit a big basket in closing seconds to win the game? If I am right, Vashon or St. Mary's will be waiting in the quarters for the Bulldogs. It will be difficult to beat these type teams without hitting big baskets in " clutch " situations in front of packed gym. There is no asset in a basketball game greater then " Experience ".

Cue the long overdue argument on difficult schedule, just presented in a different manner...

After reviewing the schedules, Sikeston had five games that came down to the wire that took free throws or a big shot to win or lose and another three that took big shots in the fourth to help pull away for a double figure win. Chaminade played in eight games that were decided by 10 points or less. So most of their games were blowouts other than these eight. I believe Chaminade's superior size and talent was the biggest deciding factor in beating Sikeston. But you would hope that playing a team of Chaminade's caliber will help prepare them down the road but you never know how kids are going to respond.

Bucket, after reviewing Sikeston's schedule, The Bulldogs have won five games by 10 points are less. I had no idea the closeness of the game listed below.

1. 12-7-17---------Cape Central----------87---------Sikeston 92
2. 12-15-17-------Cape Notre Dame----65---------Sikeston 73
3. 12-29-17-------Zum. West--------------66---------Sikeston 68
4. 01-20-18-------Whitfield-----------------72---------Sikeston 74
5. 02-06-18-------Saxony Lutheran------71---------Sikeston 81

I will give credit. The Sikeston Bulldogs have won more games this year by 10 points or less then I expected. I'm guessing some of the above games were won by scoring clutch baskets to preserve the victory. This should help the Bulldogs down the road in advancing in districts and beyond. The Bulldogs are 23-2 and appear to be ready to defend their class 4 district championship from last year.

I agree playing Chaminade should help prepare the Bulldogs for district play and to compete with teams like Vashon and St. Mary's.

The age old schedule talk.

A few factoids on Sikeston's schedule this year.
Five of Sikeston's opponents are Class 3 district champions last week
We played nine teams in the Missouri top 66 (all classes ranked by maxpreps computer rankings)
1 Chaminade
19 Poplar Bluff
20 Cape Central (twice)
26 Charleston
32 Whitfield
48 Notre Dame (twice)
62 Farmington
64 Troy
66 Jackson

Carnahan, Father Tolton and Saxony Lutheran also won district titles last week. I'm sure it's not near as tough as the city boys schedules but it's what we got so just deal with it. And as I've always said, the SEMO Conference alone should be enough preparation for any playoff run and that shows with the rankings above. Five of our eight opponents are ranked, and six if you count us but we don't play ourselves.
