The end of the game, which I personally thought was classless, between CR and Trinity was brought up on another thread. This game and the game CBC played against Joplin were the only times I saw them play. I admit up front, this is a sample of 1 each. What stuck out to me was those teams all displayed the worst sportsmanship I witnessed all year. Maybe these were all anomalies? Just struck me as hypocritical that these three are supposed Christian schools.
Below is a portion of the statement from the CRCP Web Page. CBC and Trinity probably have something similar. Maybe what I witnessed were “one-offs”? I hope so. Or maybe respect, honor and dignity are words they like to say?

A fundamental element of the CRCP preparation includes the basic understanding that all life is to be honored and respected, as well as the dignity of fellow human beings.
We understand that our students are “young people” on a journey to developing skills needed to become responsible adults. Nonetheless, we insist on a constant commitment to the pursuit of excellence in all aspects of their lives.

Games get chippy. They are kids. We all screw up from time to time. I get all thoae excuses. Just curious if anyone else had the same observation?

They do what they see players at the next levels doing (they’ll continue to do it as long as they are allowed to get away with it)
Just curious if their administrations are more in line with Al Davis than the teachings of Christ? On the other hand, I heard good things out of Vianney (private) and Ladue (public).

See only you old timers actually give any shit about this stuff.
We also in a different thread explained the many times Joplin HS Football Team and their fans have displayed terrible sportsmanship and taunting.
The nightly news has been over since 9:30, take your 9pm prescription meds and head to bed old timer.

When the head coach can't control the kids there is a problem. You could tell by the facial expressions of Trinity's coach the kids on the field were not running the plays he called when they scored that final td. He was yelling at them you can see from the broadcast. Less then 1 minute left you throwing the ball in the endzone stopping the clock with incompletions...

From Saint Louis newspaper

The game was chippy. There was some back and forth on social media during the week. During the pre-game warm up, both teams met at the 50-yard line and had to be separated after they started woofing at each other. There were 32 total penalties called, a state title game record 18 on Trinity and 14 on Ritter, now the third most ever in the title game. The previous record for penalties was 16 set by Raymore-Peculiar in its 2004 win over McCluer North.

Ritter sophomore running back Bill Jackson was ejected with 2:50 to play after Trinity was flagged for a roughing the kicker penalty that led to some extra curricular activity on the field.

A day after St. Louis Archbishop Robert Carlson held a ceremonial coin toss with both teams, they did not participate in a post-game handshake.

Gregory expected both teams to play with an edge but was not happy his team went too far. It was Gregory's second title game appearance in his 10 seasons as a coach. He guided Maplewood-Richmond Heights to a Class 2 runner-up finish in 2010.

“This was a game everybody was talking about since last Saturday. We knew it'd be very competitive and emotions would be high,” Gregory said. “Playing a good team like this on a stage like this (the penalties) hurt. You can't have those mistakes in a game like this.”

After so much disappointment the last two seasons, Trinity got what it came for and will enjoy every minute of the celebrations to come.

At the end, there was an unsportsmanlike on the CR coach. Not sure what that was about?

On every thread on here, why is your opinion the only on that is correct or allowed to be posted ?

Us “old timers” (I’m 36, BTW) are the only ones who care about setting a record for penalties in a state title game and NOT shaking hands with the other team after the game???

It really is true; all a person has to do is quote you directly to make you look ridiculous!

Outside of the teams and their fans I think there is a general view that Vianney and Ladue won a championship and the respect to go along with it. Trinity left with a championship and a trophy.
Please, you are the only one who thinks this. Who got the unsportsmanlike penalties? Whose player was ejected? Get tf outta here.

They didn't shake hands because of how heated it got and they wanted to keep the players separated. Stop being so dense. Also, it was Ritter's decision not to shake hands. Trinity was lining up to do it. Man, you all need to give it a rest.

What really bugged me if you watch the broadcast some of them were running around with cellphones taking pics. And game was not over yet.

What a difference a week makes. I was at last weeks semifinal and thought Trinity was very respectable at the end of that game.

It could have to do with the chippiness between them and Ritter along with their first championship. You said you were at the game last week and they showed repect right? They have been very respectable the entire season, so one game against a heated rival like Ritter changes everything for you, huh?

Trinity was not lining up to shake hands, they were running around and taunting the CR players after the game, they didn't shake hands because MSHSAA didn't allow them to, because no one believed they could do it without trouble!!!!!
I was at that game and it certainly appeared that they were falling in line to shake hands, but I could be wrong. Ritter players were taunting Trinity's sideline and their fans the entire game, not to mention these teams don't like each other. And THANK YOU for pointing out it wasn't Trinity's decision not to shake hands. MSHSAA didn't hold them b.s. k because of Trinty's players, i can tell you that. Last I saw, they ejected a Ritter player. Trinity's players wouldn't let their teammates fall into that trap. You didn't see them push their teammates away from potential altercations during the game? Guessing you didn't.

The thing I find most unbelievable in this article is that Ritter actually had a runningback named “Bill”.
You and me both, lol. I heard them announce "Bill" at the game and I was like "Bill?" They also had a Luther. LOL

I’m sure the ShowMe bowl record 18 penalties against Trinity were all Ritters fault, too.

Just ask Dorial Green Beckham; no amount of talent can save you from having no accountability for your actions (and NONE of Trinity’s recruits are as talented as DGB was...)

You’re right, I should not have singled out the elders specifically. It turns out you can be any age and hate on Trinity lol. I promise NO ONE related gives an inch of a shit that you, or any steaming angry adults in Mosports cares that they dont have your respect.
Its already clear as day why you guys love to criticize, police, and nitpick Trinity, CBC, LN, and Ritter. Those schools “rub you the wrong way” lol
Being a hater wont get you anywhere in life, you should know that by 36.

DGB the most talent Missouri born athlete in a generation, just a knuckhead (*Im sure knuckhead is appropriate considering the avg age of 65 in this thread)

Here’s hoping (sincerely) that Trinity’s recruits are not as big a knuckleheads as their record setting 18 penalties would lead one to believe.

I feel like Im repeating myself, but it takes a different level of hate to hold on to that lol literally no one cares. In 20 years you’ll be 85 and you’ll definitely tell you’re great grandkids about how Trinity had those 18 penalties instead of them winning the state championship, just weird.

What do the penalties have to do with sportsmanship and behavior and you all talking about how classless you think they are? That's what I'm talking about. Keep up. All of you grown ass men obsessed with a bunch of teenagers is not healthy.

As far as the penalties go, yep they committed a bunch of them and still won in a route.

That is has records work; from now until that record is broken, every time a state finalist gets close to that record, journalists will remind readers and listeners “team X had a lot of penalties, but not as many as Trinity in 2018.”

Who cares? All that matter is State Champs 2018.

As long as they have a great recruiting class and can win a state championship, nothing else matters. Us "old-timers" don't care if they are classless knuckleheads.
It’s not how you play. Whatever it takes to win. Here’s your trophy, Trinity.

Class 3 cheats! What ever it takes to win!!
They don’t cheat. It is a Blessed, dyed in the wool, old time miracle that all these D1 athletes humbly showed up for school there to be subjected to the teachings of class, dignity, morality, and integrity that was in full display this last Sabath Day.

Well I’m 27 and even I don’t think Trinity acted right or possessed the appropriate amount of discipline and responsibility that comes with calling yourself a champion.

If you want to call yourself a champion, you play like a champion and most importantly, act like a champion.
