Cassville at Mt. Vernon

1:27 left in the game...Mt. Vernon leads Cassville, 23-16. MV takes the lead on some rather spectacular pass plays featuring some real circus catches.

MV forces a fumble and recovers on the Cassville 21. 1:11 left in the game.

Mt. Vernon wins, 23-16.

MV had a great QB-Receiver show tonight. They suffered so many unsportsmanlike conduct penalties that I lost count (mostly cussing at the refs). BUT...this was the worst ref crew seen in many seasons. Just horribly unorganized and unprofessional and they made for a sloppy game.

Cassville is riddled with injuries and is having to dip into the underclasses for players; however, the Freshman QB did a pretty good job considering the 2 best offensive linemen were out of the game. Cassville never gave up but they are just too thin in positions right now.

Got to give MV credit where due...they played with heart tonight to get the homecoming win as a result. Congratulations M'Neers!

You are right this was a hard fought game by both teams. You are correct the officiating was horrible. All night they would call a penalty and point towards one team and then mark it off the other way. As far as most of the Unsportsmanlike penalties you are correct they were warranted. On the one play we had 3 alone called but one was against #52, one was against Coach Cox and really I don't know who the 3rd one was against but I am sure it was something said on the field by a player because as fans we were mad so I could only imagine what the players were feeling. Some very questionable calls on some key fumbles. I am a huge MtNeer fan but I will admit I was surprised on the 1st touchdown catch in the endzone by #24 that he did not get called for a push off from the defender. From where I was sitting it sure looked like it. It also seemed like the whistles to stop play were not consistent. It is really to bad to see such a hard fought game played out by both teams come down to some horrible officials.
