If this is the reaction to kids, who haven't even tested positive themselves, just having contact with someone who had the virus, there will be no sports this year.

is the test they recieved 100% accurate? the lady in the white house was tested repeatedly with negative results. then she tested positive later. the school is being cautious with good reason you know because someones life is worth more than sports. add to that the lawsuit factor.

They just shared that one of the student athletes has tested positive for covid-19, but they do not believe this individual was at workout facilities paticipating, so they are hopeful no other student athletes are affected.

I agree, this situation is an indicator that sports wont happen. Its really not possible to function with the expectation of keeping everyone 'safe'.

We will be lucky to have it.
So when will we find out something from MSHSAA? Or if not them, who's making the decisions about fall sports? If it's up to each individual district, what happens when one district says play, but another in the same conference says no?

The governor is supposed to make his next big announcement about what "phase of recovery" we'll be going to, by the end of this week. MSHSAA is probably waiting for guidance from DHSS and DESE before making an announcement.

That is fine but if schools shut down athletic facilities because a kid was in contact with someone who has tested positive it really doesn't matter what MSHSAA says.

That gets back to my questions. How are we gonna have a season if 1-2 kids get infected the week of a game? Is the whole team quarantined for 14 days? What if the other team is ready to play? Does the infected team forfeit? Go ahead and play and possibly spread the disease? Who's going to decide these things and when? It's starting to get late.

I think letting things play out and making a determination later with more facts should continue to be MSHSAA’s play. As it stands we’re still 2 and a half months before an official contest begins, so it’s not like anything is imminent. The worst thing in my mind to do is be overly proactive and waste everybody’s time with putting in policies left and right based on what we know now, which may not be relevant by the time we get to August & September.

I give MSHSAA a hard time, but admittedly this is a difficult decision that is one of those proverbial “can’t win” scenarios.
That is, unless you roll the dice, play the season, and no one gets infected.
Who wants to be the one willing to chance it at this point? Still too many questions about this virus as of now.
I would have hated not being able to compete against Valley during my senior year! I can only imagine how bad Bosko will be if he cant hold pep rallies!

Unfortunatley yes. IMO that was an over precaution by Carthage. Here's my theory: if the CDC and plenty of "health experts" say its fine for hundreds of thousands of people to protest in packs all over the country then that should tell you the virus can't be so bad right? Especially when teenagers have a very low chance of getting it, let alone dying from it.

In St. Louis most of the school districts aren't even letting coaches oversee weights room and conditioning sessions even though Illinois of all states just gave the go-ahead for that. Those are more important to offseason improvement than actuall football drills and 7-on-7s... Obviously the virus could get less and less effective as time goes on this summer, but it all depends on how the state and school districts handle the situation.

Just read Carthage School District's latest facebook message and said they will reopen the previous closed facilities tomorrow after consulting with the Jasper County Health Department.

I don't think the CDC said it was alright to go out and protest. I think people did that on their own. I'm waiting to hear that a large group of people get it from all this.

true...his answer was political. add to that the CDC guidelines have been shown to be influenced by the political arm of this government.
