The 6'8" swingman rated by ESPN as the #9 junior in the country has picked SLU over Mizzou.
Gordon said his relationship with Cory Tate who coached him with the Eagles played a big roll in his commitment.
Didn't Tate leave the Tigers coaching staff to join SLU?

SLU also got a commitment from Jordan Goodwin, a kid that I think is going to be a Great college player, in August.

Mizzou hasn't made any inroads in STL under KA and the fact that Corey Tate left for SLU sure hasn't helped ...

Who was the last MU coach to successfully recruit STL? Quinn? It's a bit mind-boggling.

Tate never coached Gordon and Gordon never played for the Eagles. He had a relationship with Tate from when Tate recruited him when he was on Mizz staff.

Has ANY coach really successfully recruited StL. Q got McKinney and Grimes if I remember right. JMac wasn't bad. Grimes.....well. Anyone else?
I recall a 6-11 kid named Steve Stipanovich that did OK... ;)
My dedication to following Missouri (now Miz-Zou..) has dwindled lots since the move into the new arena...
Given the choice I now pass on the MU tickets to watch area high school games.
C =P~

That sounds pretty accurate just going off memory. Matt Lawrence was ok, but it's not like he was a big time recruit. Grawer was an STL guy that contributed. I'm sure there have been a few others slipping my mind...but I sure can't come up with a distinguished list.

That was the reason for hiring Tate and he jumped ship. How can they get those kids if the guys they hire to get them won't stay?

Sounds to me like he wanted to stay close to home if he turned down Kansas for SLU.
Perhaps, but I'm pretty sure the majority of kids don't find being close to home such a big deal as it was in the past. Gotta give a ton of credit to Travis Ford though. Not coached one game and he's bringing in two highly skilled players. The 2018-19 Billikens are looking pretty strong right now.

Hopefully he does not change colleges like he did high school teams! LOL

So you choose SLU over Kansas and it's not to be closer to home? o_O

Gordon will never end up at SLUH. He will play in the big time circuit this summer and
will get offers he can't refuse.

He's in the top 20 of every national recruiting base. He's already played nationally. There's not a college coach in the country that doesn't know who he is. Whether he actually ends up at SLU or not won't depend on where he plays this summer. He already had offers from plenty of Power 5 major programs.

No way he plays for SLUH who is in a low major conf when he can go to Duke
and play in the big time.

Or possibly set and watch others play for year or two. Maybe he wants to somewhere that he knows he'll get time right away? Or maybe he wants to be 'the guy' that helps SLU get on the road to being a power in D-1 basketball?

I'm confused... He's going to play in a bigger circuit than the EYBL and get seen by more coaches than playing with Mike Porter and Trae Young. Every high major program in the country has already seen him play at a very high level.

Those guys wont play on the circuit this summer. I am sure they will be busy at the college they will attend in the fall.

I'm aware that those those two won't be playing on the circuit this summer.... I was pointing out that he could not possibly get anymore exposure this summer than he did last playing with those two and Mokan.

No way he ends up at SLUH. Atlantic 10 conf compared to the ACC. Thats like playing
in the rookie league or the NBA. Ever look at SLUH schedule not really what a super
star wants to play against.

Larry Hughes did not mind it and led them to the NCAA tourney. He has stayed in St. Louis and is doing great things for the youth of St. Louis through basketball still. Why can you not believe that is the case here? I think it is a great step for the program and the sky is the limit with them.

He could de-commit and play somewhere else, but if he does, it won't have anything to do with additional exposure. No way he gets more exposure this summer than last. He was on the team that won Peach Jam in July and was their third-best player. How do you get more exposure on the summer circuit than that?

And, he already had offers from a lot of those schools, so if he wanted to play in the big time, why not choose that up front.

It's probably worth keeping in mind that Travis Ford has a commitment from one five star in Gordon, and two four stars in Jordan Goodwin and Hasahn French.

The points made about the SLU schedule, competition, etc., just make the job being done by Ford all the more impressive.

Despite taking over a program that was 11-21 last year, and playing in a bad league, Ford has gotten more done on the recruiting trail in a matter of months than KA has in three years. Which begs the obvious question, if Ford can sell SLU, why can't KA sell MU? He can't even convince the kids in the program to stay, let alone convince meaningful outside recruits to come in.

Bottom line: successful coaches figure out a way to sell their school, get players and get results. Bad coaches flounder about and find an army of excuse makers to explain away their failures.

Why are you so down on the A-10? It's going to be a pretty strong league this year with Xavier currently ranked #7 and Rhode Island ranked #23. Dayton and VCU are also receiving votes. If he was going to Gonzaga would you be so skeptical? The WCC isn't as strong as the A-10 as a conference. You're also overlooking the fact that he had offers from schools in every power 5 conference, including some of the elite basketball programs in the country. All schools that play the type of schedule you are claiming he won't get at SLU (take a look at Notre Dame's schedule....). If it doesn't mater now, why would it matter a year from now?

SLU is a better basketball program right now than Mizzou, and Travis Ford is a much better coach than Kim Anderson. How can anyone be surprised by this?

Ford has always been able to recruit. Look at the talent that he brought to Oklahoma State. His problem is that he doesn't do a great job with the talent once they get on campus. Great recruiter, so-so coach.

I would agree that this year determines anderson's future. I am fine with giving him a pass the last two seasons..It's been nice not having scandals and sexual assault accusations the last couple seasons. I think these young guys he brought in can play. Kim may not be a great recruiter...I don't know. But he knows how to win...his record at UCM would show that.

Pretty hard to recruit initially when your program is blown up, down scholarships, and a pretty poor start.
Guys come into bad situations all the time and make it better. Guys like Ben Howland, who Mizzou could've easily had. But Kim has shown 0 improvement. In fact, he's had 2 historically bad seasons, with no prospects for this season to be much better. He'll get his 9-13 wins this season and be gone.

With your recent history of predictions Coach Anderson is probably feeling pretty good.
