One of the top college prospects in Missouri for 2018 will be playing for Team Penny out of Memphis, Tenn this summer. Carte'are Gordon will be a senior @ Webster Groves high school this year. Webster is a heavy favorite to defend their class 5 state championship in 2018.

Other top prospects from Missouri are:

1. Courtney Ramey 6'4" --Webster
2. Jordan Lathon----6'4"---Grandview
3. Torrence Watson-6'4"---Whitfield
4. Karrington Davis--6'5"- Chaminade
5. Fred Thatch--------6'3"--Sikeston
6. Jerocole Hellens--6'5"--Chaminade
7. Jontay Porter------6'10"-Tolton

Are there others Missouri players who should be on the above list?

I hope that isn't your rankings because if so, you have a kid that might be the top player in the 2018 class in Missouri ranked way too low. Porter has blown up in the first two EYBL sessions and if he remains in the 2018 class, he will likely open his senior year as a five star recruit ranked somewhere between 10-20. He is currently ranked No. 26 in the latest ESPN 60 rankings, just two spots below the lowest five star (No. 24), but well ahead of most of the kids on your Missouri list.

I actually think there is a decent chance he will pass Gordon in the updated rankings if he stays in the 2018 Class.

Of course, if he goes to Mizzou this fall it becomes a moot point.

mowestern, would you take Jontay Porter over Carte'are Gordon? Both Jontay and Carte'are will be very good college players. Carte'are is being monintored by NBA teams. Reports are Jontay is playing well on the AAU circuit. Earl Austin Jr. reported Carte'are ( Team Penny ) had an injury last weekend.

I'd rather not answer that in a public forum, but Porter has been one of the top players in the EYBL circuit through the first two sessions and his team is 8-0 with him as its leader. I think he is a lot better than a lot of people assume he is.

If he doesn't go to MU right away, I think he climbs the rankings significantly and enters his senior season as a five star recruit.

I would absolutely take Porter over Gordon!

I can't claim to be an expert by any stretch, but Gordon seemed like a slightly more athletic Javon Crudup to me.

Some of you might not get that reference, but Crudup was a big kid from Raytown South who graduated in 1991. He was very strong and muscular but slightly undersized for a post position (6'7 or so). He was a fine collegiate player for Mizzou in the 90s, but was not a real threat to be a long-term NBA player. I felt like I was back in KC watching Crudup play while watching Gordon at the final four this year. I wouldn't have guessed that he is a such a lock for the NBA that scouts would be "monitoring" him at this point, but maybe I just haven't seen him enough.

Porter was recently named the MVP of the second Nike EYBL session, and was in contention for being named the MVP of the first session in Hampton. There might be some that don't have a good reference point as to what that means, and I totally understand that, but it is big boy basketball in every sense of the word. Anyone who tells you any different has probably never been.

Crudop is quite a stretch as a comparison. He was 6'6, Gordon is a legit 6'9. Gordon is a more explosive athlete than Crudop was ... Crudop wasn't an above-the-rim athlete, in fact the running joke when he was at MU was he never dunked the ball. That lack of explosiveness and inability to play much on the perimeter is why his career stalled as an NBA prospect despite a standout career at MU ... I think the better comparison might be something of a hybrid between Tyler Cook and Julius Randle (Lakers). Cook and Gordon are similar due to their size, strength and explosiveness.

Gordon is skilled enough to play a face-up 4 and put the ball on the floor and attack in the same way Randle is and while you probably don't see much of that in the high school game, you do see it on the AAU circuit where he's not needed to play inside as much. Those skills, right now, are very raw and have a lot of room for growth and development, but those skills, no matter how raw, combined with his size and explosiveness is why is so highly thought of as a prospect.

I will accede to you on the skills, I didn't get to see that face-up ability that you mention so that would obviously be a separator between the two players. I personally didn't think Gordon looked that explosive in the Final Four relative to major collegiate players I have seen in the past, but I understand that my opinion is based on a limited set of games.

I did see Crudup play a slew of games both in HS and at MU (I remember the rep as a player who wouldn't dunk) and felt like they were similar. The crazy thing about Crudup was that he had a high school teammate name Chris Lindley that was a WAY better player. For those that didn't know about him, he was signed to go to KU and then tried to climb on a moving train, slipped and got his foot cut off.

I also thought the size between Gordon/Crudup was closer because Gordon is listed at 6'7" or 6'8" on the recruiting websites that I saw. I would be surprised if they were listing him shorter than his actual height, but maybe they haven't updated it.
