A toss-up according to the mosports COC pick'em thread. Flint's pick technically makes it 9-8 in favor of CJ right now, but that guy is a true Bulldog fanatic that would never pick against his team regardless of the odds.

Looks like CJ will go without their placekicker tonight due to a soccer game in Camdenton. Will be interesting to see what kind of impact that has.

Big night for the COC and this one here isn't even the main event, which features the two undefeated league leaders playing a few miles away at Webb (5-0), where Nixa (5-0) comes calling.

Carthage turnover on downs at the CJ 40.
Bulldogs hit a big pass from Kennedy to Ludders for 52 yards, followed by a Weston TD run.
14-0 Bulldogs with 5:07 left in the first.

3:11 to play. Weston with a 9-yd TD run following a great 34 yard gainer from beyond midfield.

The shootout is on!

Pending the final score of Camdenton-Rolla and assuming Camdenton holds on to win:
1 Webb (57.17)
2 Carl Junction (50.67)
3 Camdenton (49.17 subject to shift slightly)
4 West Plains (47.00)

So I have Camdenton at 48.17 with their 3-point win over Rolla. It is my belief that CJ controls their own destiny now as far as the district #2 seed goes. And even if Webb loses once, they own the head to head over CJ which is fine and deserved.

So now, I just hope that CJ takes care of business with Willard, at Pittsburg and Nixa.

The late Rolla TD tonight could take Camdenton from the 2 seed to the 4 seed.

For the record, I'm sure Webb won't lose again. 9-0 regular season, first round district blowout of Marshfield, and then perhaps a semifinal against Hillcrest, who will be the toughest #5 seed in any class 4 district IMO.

But won't WP flip with them at the end?
Yes they would in all likelihood, but not because of the final Rolla touchdown.

I agree with the crux of your point that even that last TD given up could have an interesting final impact, potentially.

The district Championship between Webb and CJ will be the state championship. Stamp it!

District Standings
Seed Team Record Points Next Opponent Next Game
1 Webb City 6-0 57.17 Ozark (3-3) 9/29
2 Carl Junction 5-1 50.67 Willard (3-3) 9/29
3 Camdenton 5-1 48.17 Waynesville (0-6) 9/29
4 West Plains 4-2 47 Kickapoo (1-5) 9/29
5 Hillcrest 3-3 38.67 Parkview (1-5) 9/28
6 McDonald County 3-3 30.24 Monett (2-4) 9/29
7 Bolivar 1-5 26.67 Buffalo (3-3) 9/29
8 Marshfield 1-5 20 Reeds Spring (4-2) 9/29

Whoa. I haven't seen Smithville play and I never write off Kearney. I agree an impending WC-CJ rematch looks like a potential state championship game but I'm pretty sure between Kearney,Smithville, Platte County of some dark horse out of the north there will be a real challenge.

Let's not crown anyone in September. Wasn't this lesson learned as recently as last year?

As for CJ-Carthage, I'm not surprised that CJ won or that CJ won by 3 scores. By 42 points I'm surprised. CJ has had some good teams in the late 80's and recent years. I think this is probably the best team they have ever had.

Also Camdenton still controls their destiny for the 2 seed but not by as much. If CJ wins out by 13+, Pittsburg goes 5-2 and the COC wins their other remaining conference games then Camdenton would need to either lose or beat Joplin by 3 points or less by my quick calculations for CJ to jump them.

That said I think Joplin is likely to beat Camdenton right now so the point could be moot.

You may be right but I see CJ edging Camdenton by .15 if both teams win their remaining games by 13+, and assuming Pittsburg wins 9/29 at Andover and 10/13 at Bonner Springs, and Neosho beats Rogersville, and Ozark beats Bolivar.

If Pittsburg, Neosho or Ozark loses one of the aforementioned, then CJ and Camdenton would tie with 52.63 ratings (and assuming there are no more tie games in the OC or COC).

Thus, when depending upon other scenarios that are out of one's control, then technically one doesn't control his own destiny.

I suppose therefore Camdenton technically doesn't control their own destiny as they need some losses by Pitt, Neosho and or Ozark.
