But if the replay guy in NY couldn't overturn a call that OBVIOUSLY showed the guy did NOT have his foot on 2nd base when he caught the throw with Piscotty sliding in then replay is a just a joke! What the heck was considered inconclusive on that replay!!!? By the second replay on TV and on the board in the stadium everybody but the replay official in NY KNEW Piscotty was safe. It took about 30 seconds to know it should be overturned yet he chose not to. Big difference in bases loaded and no outs and 1st and 3rd with one out. Just plain sad!

Pretty amazing that the Birds are 30 over, everything considered. I watched baseball tonight on ESPN and they still don't give the cardinals pitching staff any respect.

The Cards announcers later said they were told this was play was not considered a force play, but rather it was considered the "neigborhood play". Neigborhood play is not reviewable. It did appear the player was in the act of trying to turn a double play, rather than just get the force. Also it was not a Cardinal challenge, rather an official review.

I wasn't paying close attention yesterday. So they must have reviewed it and decided it was the neighborhood play which they couldn't overrule with a review. Lol. Stuff like that is what makes the review process look stupid. I did see a replay. It was obvious he was safe yet they can't correct a obvious bad call because of some dumb rule.

The neighborhood play has always been stupid in my opinion. But it's like the strike zone. Somewhat close is good enough.

One thing I like about replay is stolen bases. For the previous 60 years if the ball beat the runner to the base he was called out even if the tag was completely missed. I used to hate that.

The announcers said it must NOT have been considered a neighborhood play or they would NOT have reviewed it at all. Why the heck did it take so long to say he was out, the replay was quite obvious to the contrary. Another ump came and told crew chief, who made the out call, they could review it. Dude made NO attempt to throw to 1st. Neighborhood play is for sure goofy. This is professional players we're talking about, if they can't make the play and get out of the way then they should just throw it to 1st if their afraid of getting hurt. If anybody can make the play it should be MLB players. Ball beat runner-runner out was also goofy, they should also be able to apply the tag if they're MLB players.

It is my understanding according to the announcers the review showed the shortstop DID raise his arm to throw to first, (which he did do), but he saw he did not have a chance to get the double play. Thus you have the neighborhood play without a throw, which by the way happens more often than you think. I have seen runners take out defensive players way out of reach of the base, while that player was attempting to make a throw to first, but never made the throw. So either allow the neighborhood play or make a runner slide legally into the base.

Why would you allow an out to be called when the out was NOT made by the rules. If a runner goes after the player at 2nd and cannot reach the base the umpire can call it a DP whether he makes a throw or no, that's already in the rule book. IF it was the so-called neighborhood play I'm sure the guy in NY would have told them it was NOT reviewable and it would not have taken so long to make the call, AND get it WRONG!

The neighborhood play IS a rule in mlb. Not in the rule book, but agree or not THAT IS THE WAY IT IS CALLED. Has been and probably will continue to be called that way for years to come.

Scoring six runs in a game is so much more fun.
If the Birds only go 28-25 the rest of the season they're at 98 wins. The Pirates would have to go 35- 20 to catch them. I don't see this either of those things happening unless more injuries hit the Cardinals, especially on the pitching staff.
