Is the idea that in year 2 Capital City and Jeff City HS will be about equal in size? (I’m assuming no seniors at CC the first year?). Wondering where both will fall in classification.

Capital City High School won't have 4 classes until the 21-22 school year, so that's when they will be fully split. The 19-20 school year will be only 9th and 10th grades, and the 20-21 school year will be 9th, 10th and 11th grades. The plan is for both schools to be equal in enrollment and social demographics, they're wanting to make each high school as equal as possible. As far as classification, if they split equally they will be around 1,300 each. Classification wise it really depends on the sport and how the classifications breakdown. I know for football, basketball, track and field they will be on the border of class 4 and 5.

Terrible situation for sports. You will have all 3 hs in JC in same districts for basketball.

I was thinking the same thing. There are districts in the state that have mostly conference schools in their district. How is that different than 3 city schools in the same district?

What would be the difference between that situation and any other around Missouri? Take Springfield for example.[/QUOT
creates bad environment and hostility at games and in public. If I remember right, they struggled with Helias in basketball and now will have to play them with half the kids in each school. In football, barely beat Battle with all the kids, now will have to compete with 1/2 the kids. Just going to be an uphill battle. Look at Hickman when they split the schools again.

I be they aren't splitting for athletic reasons. Plus I don't see this being a huge issue. I have no idea what the numbers are but what if they do move down classes since they will have fewer students per school (at least in the public schools). Maybe JC will be able to compete again since they won't be class 5 basketball.
