Camdenton hires...

Some big shoes to fill but he has a long history as being a head coach before coming back to Camdenton as an assistant.

Good Luck to Coach Pitts. I played against him when he coached at Palmyra. He seemed to be well respected there at the time.

I believe he coached them to their only title appearance in 2000.

I dont remember if he ended up winning the district title or not. It was a really weird situation where losing to Boonville actually clinched a playoff spot for Odessa. I knew a lot of the seniors on the team. Some parents weren't too happy that Odessa chose to lose, rather than play to win lol.

Here's the only article I find on it.

Because they finished tied so it went to tie breaker which was points.

I get that because of the points, that's why Odessa was able to clinch a playoff spot. I just find it odd that literally taking a loss, instead of winning, could clinch a playoff spot. The players and parents I knew back then agreed. Everyone was happy to make the playoffs but sad to see your take a knee and purposely lose a one point game.

After reading this I went back and read the article you linked. You're right! Odessa took a knee while LOSING!! The only time I want me team taking a knee, or safety, is to prevent the other team from recovering a fumble for a TD! Especially when its raining!

He did win a district championship in his second year at Odessa. Only stayed 2 years there I think.

"This was all news to Odessa Coach Par Pitts, who thought his team’s one-point loss had secured the Bulldogs their first district title since 2007. Odessa (4-6, 2-1) had one last chance to win the game when it took possession on its own 25-yard line with 3:47 remaining, but the Bulldogs used five running plays to move the ball 20 yards before Pitts had his quarterback kneel on the ball."

Wow!! Taking a knee while losing. Now that's a first for me!
