Calpreps went 15/22 this weekend, that's 68%

I like Calpreps but they look even worse when you take into account this comment directly from their website:

"Note: By comparison, blindly picking the team with the better record (and the home team in case of equal records), would have yielded the following percentage for the part of the season we pick: 66.8%"

Blindly picking the team with the better record (and the home team in case of equal records), would have yielded 14/22 winners in this week's Class 1-6 games in Missouri.

Calpreps 8-2 in classes 4,5,6. Where you picking Vienney to lose? Do tell. 84% on the season. If you drop the <7 point spreads, over 94%.

I just know that Calpreps was blatantly wrong on Princeton by 14 over East Buchanan. Much to my considerable hometown chagrin. Damn it!

Honcho: I'm not convinced of your opinion. Hamilton had a week to prepare for Harper not playing. (I don't buy all the Hamilton propaganda about not knowing if he was going to play.)

Millerbleach: Not since they lost, no.

Are Calpreps' prediction computer picks? That would explain a lot about them.

Good luck to East Buch Saturday!

I walked out of the Penney vs. East Buchanan game at 5:30 in the 2nd quarter with Penney up 36-0; it was 48-0 at halftime. They could have won 70-0 (if not 100-0) against East Buchanan if they had left their starters in. Yes, the same East Buch that is a Class 1 semifinalist and who put 48 on Princeton this week. East Buch didn't even score against Penney's starters; they only got a few scores against the JV.

With Harper at QB for Penney the only Class 1 teams that had any shot of staying within 35 of Penney were Monroe City and Valle Catholic. Harper averaged 14.5 yards per carry and had 1990 rushing yards with 32 rushing TDs (10 passing TDs, 5 receiving TDs, 3 punt return TDs; he averaged almost 30 yards a punt return). Just for comparison purposes, the second best Penney rusher averaged 5.2 yds/carry. Do I need to continue?

How does giving a team a week to prepare after losing their best player on offense and one of the top players on defense change the fact that they are playing without their best player?

I've seen this many times from 8-man to Class 2. A few examples are Kassanavoid at Lawson or one of the Humes QBs at West Platte 12 or so years ago. One player can take a team from average/good to unbeatable in the smaller classes.

That West Platte team 12 years ago was more the just Humes. But he was a huge part of the state title winning team. It’s pretty easy for a QB to be that good when he has 2 of the best WR’s I’d ever seen at a Class 1 school.

Oh yeah, they're computer picks. But JNReturns(aka Joey) claims them as his own.

So, you are saying Penny wasn't a very good team but a great player made them a good team.

I think it can even go as high as class 3.

Bowles at Richmond. Graham at OG.

So, was the point of this thread to say that statistical analysis is an inexact science? If so, I agree.

That Richmond team also had something like 16 college athletes. Bowles was a stud, but He was out for most of the Semi final against Cassville with a dislocated kneecap.

Graham was a stud, but if I'm not mistaken, OG had numerous college athletes on that team too.

We might as well go to Class 4 as well. Harrisonville would not have won last year without their stud running back, kicker, punt returner, kickoff returner, linebacker, water boy, assistant coach, bus driver, etc.....,he did it all for the Wildcats. I can't remember his name or pronounce it. Webb City has had a few of those type players as well, even though they were surrounded by other very good players. Players such as Wistrom, Smith, Hardin, Chapman, etc....etc...
