Brashear Takes 4th in Knox County Softball Tournament September 3, 2011
The Brashear Lady Tigers faced South Shelby in the 1st round of the Knox County tournament. The game was scoreless until the 3rd inning when Brashear's Meredith Thomas and Shelby Salter both singled and scored. Brashear added another run in the 4th when 1st baseman Kristen Love blasted a solo homer over the right field fence. South Shelby scored their only run in the 5th as Brashear advanced with a 3-1 win. For Brashear, Kristen Love homered, Shelby Salter had 2 hits, and Meredith Thomas, Cierra Hines, and Ashley Watson had hits. Caldwell, Kirby, Barry, and Barton had hits for South Shelby. Cierra Hines picked up the win for Brashear with Fohey taking the loss for South Shelby.
Next up for Brashear was the host Lady Eagles from Knox County. Knox County struck early with a run in the 1st, adding single runs in the 3rd and 5th before sealing the 6-1 win with a 3-run 7th. Brashear got on the scoreboard in the 4th as Meredith Thomas led off with a triple, then Cierra Hines singled her home. Shelby Salter singled to move Hines into scoring position, but a pair of strikeouts ended Brashear's rally. Thomas, Hines, and Salter had hits for Brashear. Nichols, Gudehus, Dooley, and Dale had hits for Knox County. Cierra Hines took the loss for Brashear striking out 9 and giving up 2 earned runs. Poston got the win for Knox County striking out 14.
Brashear faced Kirksville JV in the 3rd place game. Kirksville got on the scoreboard with a run in the 1st, but Brashear answered with a pair of runs in the 3rd. Brashear picked up another run in the 6th, but Kirksville had single runs in the 3rd, 4th, and 5th plus a 3-run 6th to win the game by a score of 7-3. Shelby Salter had 2 hits for Brashear with Meredith Thomas and Alexa Acton also having hits. For Kirksville, Schwend, Sparks, Kirkpatrick, Lawson, Snyder, and Titus all had hits. Kristen Love took the loss for Brashear striking out 3. Kirkpatrick got the win for Kirksville.
