Novinger Softball/Baseball at Brashear September 6, 2011

The Tigers and Wildcats split a Tri-County Conference double-header.

The Novinger Lady Wildcat softball team wasted no time getting on the scoreboard as #2 hitter Sierra Jacques hit a triple to right field, then came home on a bad relay throw to put Novinger up 1-0. The lead didn't last long as Brashear leadoff hitter Meredith Thomas stroked the first pitch into the right field corner for an inside the park homer tying the game at 1-1. Brashear was far from done as they batted around in the 1st taking a 10-1 lead. Brashear added 3 more in the 2nd and 3 more in the third to end the game early 16-1. Cierra Hines had 3 hits for Brashear, Meredith Thomas had 2 hits including a home run, and Ashley Moncrief, Shelby Salter, Katie Smith, and Katie Watson also had hits. Sierra Jacques had Novinger's lone hit. Cierra Hines picked up the win for Brashear throwing a 1-hitter and striking out 5. Sierra Jacques took the loss for Novinger.

Novinger also struck early in the baseball game taking a 5-1 lead after one inning of play. Novinger added single runs in the 2nd and 3rd innings before exploding for 7 runs in the 5th. Brashear's 1st run came in the 1st as Hayden Housman doubled and Gabe Thomas drove him in. The Tigers scored again in the 3rd as Housman hit a solo homer. Brashear's final run came in the 4th as Blake Pflum doubled and Nick Bradshaw drove him in. Brashear came up short by a score of 14-3. For Brashear, Hayden Housman had a homer and a double, Blake Pflum doubled, and Nick Bradshaw and Curtis Blakely singled. Keaton Tade and Blake Smith homered for Novinger with Chris Smith, Justin Klingsmith, Montana Jacques, Derek Park, and Trevor Stocks also having hits. Hayden Housman got the start for Brashear with Gabe Thomas pitching in relief. Justin Klingsmith and Jonathan Novinger pitched for Novinger.
