He's not exactly taking advantage of Jay's absence so far this spring. 0-12 with 1 run scored, 1 walk and 3 K's.

If Martinez and Garcia come thru we can get by with the same frustrating, mediocre offense we had last year. I am convinced Gonzales can flat out pitch whether in the rotation or bullpen.

I agree on both counts. Jamie is looking good and Pete is done! Hell I would put Grichik out their every day and see how it goes. The guy was good enough to play in every playoff game last fall!

Can Grichuk play effective defense in center or is he only a corner outfielder?

Good speed and great arm, haven't heard of him getting much time there.

If Jay's wrist is healthy he will be in CF, if he doesn't hit then it's all up for grabs again. Assuming anybody else hits better of course.

Any word on Jay. Last I heard he was swinging but not cleared for games yet.

I saw something on the Card's website a day or two ago that said Jay had requested a few more days of batting practice to test his wrist before going into live game action. Today it shows Wainwright pitching to Jay in a simulated game. I assume if he feels good after that he'll be ready for some game action.

Bourjos now 1-23 after hitting into a DP and striking out in his next 2 at bats. He wanted another at bat but Matheny told him to go home and clear his head. Gotta be tough on him mentally trying to show he can hit but it just ain't happenin for him yet.
