I tried to tell everyone they were over ranked. They had a 40 point loss to a Kickapoo team with 1 starter healthy over Xmas and rose in the rankings.

What other schools have continued to be ranked loss after loss? I think in this case it's more hate toward the ranking

In the latest poll, they were not ranked, and they haven't deserved to be ranked in a while. They peaked at about the turn of the new year.

Yes, I don't get the obsession with Clever, especially from Hoop squad. They didn't rank themselves that high, after all.

My bad. I looked at the Feb 6th rankings instead of the newest one and thought they were still ranked #5.

No depth and they've lost some key players at various times for various reasons since the start of the year, but they will have everyone for when districts start. So we'll see if they can find what they are missing...

I apologize if I seem hateful but Eldo has a better resume and should have been ranked but Clever kept staying in the top 3 after big losses. If Maryville lost by 40 to a big KC school with several starters out they wouldnt even be considered for a ranking.

I’ve said many times that Eldo should have been ranked. But they have not played a very tough schedule.

Only explanation is that Clever has one of the best players in not only SWMO but the entire state. There’s not five players in this area who have had as good of season as Clevenger has, and even that might be selling her short, and the most impressive part of her is that she is very consistent from game to game, a rarity for a high school girls basketball player. So her season gets both her and Clever a lot of brownie points with the people who do the rankings.

They beat a solid Ash Grove team by nine last night, get one of their better players back for Thursday’s game vs a solid Forsyth team, and have a very good shot at 20 wins. But yes, they have struggled against ranked teams. Kickapoo is their only loss that was not to a ranked team. They have 1 win and 6 losses against teams ranked in the top 5 of the state plus a loss to ranked St James.

The kickapoo game that you’ve brought up roughly 316 times was indeed a stinker of a game. But if you know anything about either team it’s not all that surprising. The Clever big was playing with a concussion that had not even been diagnosed yet. She later missed a few games because of that and in that game she was clearly out of it. And Clever already struggles with interior defense. Yes, Kickapoo was missing players but they STILL had plenty of girls who can play, at least 4 bigs that pounded Clever inside with their height and physicality plus one of the better outside shooters in the area.

So not only was the game a matchup nightmare for Clever but they had a big girl with a concussion playing and they just didn’t show up. Every team has WTF games, especially in girls basketball, and that was Clever’s.

All that said... They should NOT be ranked at this point as was said previously. They should win their district though and go to sectionals if they play as they are capable of, move the ball, find the open player, and don’t make stupid mistakes or take bad shots.

i feel bullied heehee. I wonder if she will get the district MVP over the Mt Vernon good girl. That district will only get 1 All State girl unless they advance to final four.

To add to what was previously said, it's not like Kickapoo isn't still a good team. They beat Blue Eye by 35 in the same Pink and White tournament and most of their losses have been close ones to really good teams. They only lost to Ft Smith Northside by 5, to Republic by 4, Rolla by 2, undefeated Carl Junction by 1, 1-loss West Plains by 4, Ozark by 8...

It'll be close between Clevenger and Stokes, maybe the edge to Clevenger just because she's a senior, which does figure into the minds of the people who pick those things, rightly or wrongly.
