Not having varsity games messes with every other school that is on their schedule (non-con games, con games, tourneys). Trickle down effect to find other schools to play, and creates a nightmare for coaches/ADs.
Thinking more game time when they are losing by 60+ every night is good for "player development" is ridiculous. That's not how teams/players "get better" as some people post on here in these types of situations. Only way individuals improve a skill is by putting the time, energy, and effort into their craft. They must sacrifice time, money, social status if they want to compete. The biggest change has to happen with the parents. They have to instill the interest for their children at a young age and nurture their development. Sports is no different than real life. Can't expect the school/government to do everything for the athlete/people. If they want to be good at something they have to put the time in themselves.
MSHSAA should create a new running clock rule that automatically starts when a team is up 40+ points. No matter the quarter. This should be in football too. That way varsity games still go a full four quarters, and theoretically scores shouldn't be as lop sided.
