Birds

Starting to enjoy Cardinal baseball again!
Much better to watch these days but it looks like an uphill to even get to the 2nd wild card spot. The west has a logjam at the top and the 2 teams that don't win that division will most likely still be in front us record wise along with Milwaukee. :(

Key week this week. The past Birds would lay an egg when playing teams like KC and Miami. If they go 4-2 or 5-1 I think they will be right there with a month and a half to play. If they go 3-3 or worst it is over!

I very much enjoy seeing athletic baseball players stealing and running at appropriate times and counts and doing it successfully.
I hope that continues.

Seeing people spray the ball to all fields is a beautiful thing. I hope we can increase that throughout the lineup.

Schildt certainly seems to understand when and where to run and put runners in motion. Previously it just seemed stand pat or reckless abandon. Like a lot of things with Mathenaging, there didn't seem to be a lot of forethought to what went on. Just a lot of gut instinct and reactionary moves. And Schildt was also somehow able to ensure a lengthy absence from Fowler. Smooth.

All these good things and we still have nobody than can get a big hit with RISP.

Well maybe the wild card spot don't look so tough now and the division is even possible. Who knew this team had run like this in em. Playing Bader is good and having a bullpen that is VERY effective is really good. And how about Gyorko's defense at 3rd?

And how about Fowler not in the lineup. That’s when this team really took off and made Bader an everyday player. Glad Carp’s x-rays were negative.

Remember this is the Birds medical staff. The initial diagnosis means nothing!

I heard this morning he was able to use the hand to open a jar of salsa. He said that is a sign he can play.

Bader has to stay in the lineup no matter who else on the roster. That said all the hype about his 'great diving catch' is silly. I know many of you have seen the catch on replay several times so tell me WHY the heck he dove for that ball. It was a very good catch simply because of how far he went to get it, but when he dove and caught the ball he was no where the ground and he was reaching above his head to make the catch. All he had to do was keep running and he makes the catch easily about chest high. Absolutely NO reason for the dive!

Bader is the best CF we've had since Edmonds. Ballgame was one of the best ever and folks complained about him too. Isn't it nice to be critiquing a play that was made instead of one that wasn't...

Folks complained about Jim Edmonds?
You must hang out with a bad crowd.

It was pretty common for him to get ripped for adding some flare when some thought it wasn't necessary. I loved watching him play. He was awesome out there. But some folks just want to find something to complain about all the time.

He was incredible for the birds.

Did Bader need to dive when he reached above his head to catch the ball? With his speed he NEVER needs to dive,, nit mention a if running hard a dive does NOT get you to the ball faster. Just keep running and catch the ball on your feet. Snd don't even get me started on the 'great sliding catches' people talk about.

Actually the catch rates on most of these catches are below 50 percent. His speed isn’t enough on a majority of catches. It’s science really. Not a big deal

If his speed ain't enough then nobody can get there. You hafta be reading and listening to different folks than I see and hear. His speed is in the top 3 in MLB. BTW that percentage on HIM making the catch, not just anybody in baseball. Diving does not you get to a ball faster if you're already running full speed, and you should be if you're tracking a ball like that. Infielders gain an advantage by diving because they can't get to full speed on a ball hit a few feet away, not so in the outfield. Now tell me what good it does to dive if you have to reach UP to make the catch. That ball could have been caught at least waist high easily by staying on his feet.

You make some of the most absolutely ridiculous arguments I've ever seen

As long as he catches it I don’t really care if he’s standing on his head and wiggling his ears. Lots of times a dive or a slide is part of reacting or like a reflex, not planned. In fact, I’d say 99.99% is not a planned action. And that’s a conservative estimation.

Can you prove I'm wrong about running to catch a ball rather than diving? How can you cover more ground diving if you're already running full speed. Two strides easily gets you as far as a dive and that dude can cover 31feet, about 10 yards, per second. Think about that, he is running at world class speed, he does NOT need to dive for anything.
