Biggest Surprise

I only want to know who you think, that don't mean you would be right. Maybe it is just a question to see how silly your thoughts on the subject are.

I'm just being unhelpful, I realize. If you are looking for sleepers, man, football is talked to death on here. Maybe Jackson and Hayti in SEMO. That region doesn't get much love usually, so maybe just from that standpoint, although it's widely known on here they are both pretty good.

Class 1: I think Fayette is a much better team than they're given credit for. They're one of my picks to be in the final four before being a speed bump for Hayti on their road to Columbia. My final four is Hayti vs. Fayette, along with Midway vs. Milan.

Class 2: Whomever the winner of Lutheran North and Blair Oaks is (should be an all-time classic!) will dethrone Lamar. I'm equally impressed with both teams. LHSN might be the most battle-tested team in the entire class, no disrespect meant to Lamar and the rest of the Big 8. Blair Oaks is just an army of well-coached football players that have loads of speed and confidence to go with it. I give BO the edge if it's in Wardsville, however. They have a great gameday atmosphere and it can be overwhelming to some teams. This might not be a "surprise team", but I truly think one of these teams will overtake Lamar just for this season.

Class 3: Why isn't Kennett getting any love? I get that they've played a relatively easy schedule, but they're not some creampuff. I think this is one of the better teams in all of Class 3 that nobody is talking about! They have a very manageable district as well and it will be interesting to see how they square up against a stellar Cardinal Ritter team in the quarterfinals. They're a bootheel team, so we know they can match anyone athletically. The Indians have an opportunity to pull of a major upset in the postseason, as they'll be riding a 10-game winning streak heading into that game.

Class 6: #7 Lee's Summit North
Class 5: #7 Jackson
Class 4: Grandview (City)
Class 3: #10 Pleasant Hill
Class 2: Fair Grove
Class 1: #6 Gower East Buchanan

Who Do You Think Will Be The Biggest Surprise Each Class, 1-6?
Parkway North.............ask nwalls. :)

Class 6 watch Liberty IF they get by Park Hill.
Class 5 watch Fort O. Everybody has forgotten about them.
Class 4 watch Excelsior Springs. Haven't played the best schedule but could shock 1-2 District 8 contenders.
Class 3 watch Pleasant Hill. A rematch with Odessa could be very, very interesting.
Class 2 not a clue, sorry.
Class 1 wide open but watch Cass Midway.

I think a Platte County-Excelsior Springs matchups will be good. Pirates aren’t too strong at stopping the run and that’s where ES excels at.

Class 1 here is one to watch (barring major upsets tomorrow night): Mid-Buchanan at East Buchanan. This was close last time out and the Dragons blew a huge early lead. Class 6 LSN has its work cut out for it. If their starting QB is out they could (agree with whomever posted this on another thread today) lose tomorrow night.

After what happened at ES last Friday night, I would assume that Class 3 P-Hill is going to be a very tough out or that ES can't hang with many class 4 teams.

When I saw these two in the Jamboree it appeared that ES totally owned PC. I did not waste my time "keeping score", just watched and it was lopsided. I also understand that was about 11 weeks ago.

Carthage. #1 ranked in class 5 ...senior QB Sappington (whom most thought to be the best QB in SWMO) breaks his hand and goes down and Carlton a sophomore steps in and it may have been a blessing in disguise bc he is a stud.

Strangely, Carthage has had to deal with this "problem" so much that we've gotten used to it. Carthage actually has the same record with backup quarterbacks as they're all well adapted to the system.

Backups (20-5)
------------
2006: T. Derryberry (9-2)
2014: Guest II (0-2)
2015: Guest II (7-0)
2018: Carlton (4-1)

Starters (16-4)
-------------
2006: Martin (0-0)
2014: A. Derryberry (8-2)
2015: A. Derryberry (4-2)
2018: Z. Sappington (4-0)

In which game did Sappington get hurt?

North Kansas City
When/if they face Staley the obvious big battle will be the Hornets O Line vs. the best front seven they have faced in 2018 by far. What gives them a legit shot is the other side of the ball. Staley, just like Park Hill in C6 and Kearney in C4 has a struggling, inconsistent offense. In their case it is mostly due to injuries but regardless I hope to attend this one if (98-99 percent chance as of today) it happens.

I'd say 3-6 South Shelby, they have the offensive player of the year in the CCC, Brock Wood, which is saying something since they only won two games in the CCC. One stat that pops out 8 Kickoff returns, 4 TDs. If South Shelby's defense can hold a team, they could go far. Also on calpreps, out of district 5 and 6, they have the third highest rating.

Class 1 ratings from those districts, Fayette is 13, Westran is 19, South Shelby is 21, and Scotland County is 23. So who makes it to the semi's is wide open and Westran has already beaten Fayette and Scotland County has beat Westran but lost to Fayette.

I can’t go with the Fair Grove pick since they lost to Buffalo. Granted Buffalo did give Ava and Fair Grove their only losses this season, on the way to a 7-2 regular season.

Fair grove surprises you? They always win during the regular season as of the past several years. Than they play the first game out of districts and get stomped, or in districts. Lamar is usually waiting for them.
