Big 8 West

While, not as many teams in the rankings, the EAST is going to be a good race as well.

Currently Seneca is in the drivers seat. It’s theirs to lose. The games involving Seneca , Lamar, Cassville, Mac County and Nevada are going to be fun. The Ozone stated the Big 8 West is the best conference top to bottom in the state.
Yes I know “thank you captain obvious😁.

The Big 8 west is not the toughest conference top to bottom.
-East Newton and Monett are both terrible.
-Cassville- 3-1 but the only competitive team they've played against had them down 35-0 at halftime. But they are in a really weak district.
-Mac/Nevada- Both these teams are somewhere around average to maybe slightly above average in their class size.
-Lamar and Seneca are both good, but Seneca has a habit of losing big games come district time.

COC all day over Big 8 West as far as top to bottom competition.

What’s your take on the COC after Joplin, Nixa, Webb and Carthage? Is the drop off similar to the big 8 west?

Republic is the 5th best team in the COC. Would they win the Big 8 West?

I think Republic would have the best chance to win it but their overall chances would still be under 50%.

Seneca won a good game last Friday night in Seneca. Seneca is in current state with Nevada losing a game I didn’t see coming in the drivers seat. There’s really nothing that’s GOING to happen here. We shall see how everything shakes out. Seneca plays Mc County and Nevada to end the year. I’m sure Nevada Lamar and Seneca will end the year with a loss or two. (Would have to obviously) let’s see who gains from this headed to districts and who doesn’t. There’s a fairly good shot Lamar gets to play Seneca again regardless of season outcome. Will be a fun time seeing this play out.

Obviously there is a considerable drop off. Republic is a little better than some of their scores reflect. They weren't ready for Gall week 1, but they were in a ball game with WC in the 4th quarter and the score doesn't reflect how close it was. Neosho can at least score points. Willard is bad. Ozark gave Joplin all they wanted.
I don't know much about Branson. CJ might still be competitive in their district, wouldn't surprise me if they beat Nevada if they get matched up.

Carl Junction?
CJ would be a force in the Big 8 West. They swapped to the COC in 2016 I believe. Their final 3 seasons in the Big 8 they only lost one game and that was to the 2015 lamar team, which I thought was their best team since Bailey got them rolling. No other Big 8 team even gave them a game those last three years.

That was also some of the best teams CJ ever had! Too bad they had WC in districts!

If you go further back CJ struggled in the Big 8. Looked up 2009-2015 and CJ was 2-4 against Lamar.
I think any of the teams below Nixa, Webb, Joplin and Carthage would compete but not dominate.

Yeah this is a COC rider. Ofc I can be called a big 8 one. But come on. Everything said about Carl is right. They aren’t good as a program outside of a few years over the past decade. They got curbed stomped by a class 2 school in Lamar on their way out. They definitely aren’t as good as they were that year even. Republic would be maybe competitive THIS season. I don’t see Carl beating Nevada unless the reason they lost last week to MC was because of injuries. I still haven’t had time to check out that game. That was bizarre I didn’t believe the score until I got home from Seneca.

Hard to tell where they are at compared to those years because they are competing against much higher level competition now. If CJ had played Nevada's Schedule through 5 games this year they would be 5-0. Nevada has wins over two 0-5 teams, and another couple Big 8 East teams. 3 of those wins coming against class 2 schools, and the other class 3. The only school they have played that's their size, they lost. Not much of an accomplishment. Have you seen Republic play? I have seen Lamar/Seneca, and Nevada play this year as well as Republic. Republic is easily 2+ touchdowns better than any of those teams, and that's being conservative. Republic doesn't get to play schools 2 class sizes smaller than them throughout their season. CJ is the only class 4 school in a conference full of class 5 powerhouses.

Lamar and Seneca are great class 2 teams. The idea though that they would beat Republic is ludicrous. I have seen them all play and Republic would maul either one of those teams. I also saw Republic has 130 kids out. That has to be up there with Webb City.

Any of you brain trust members still think Republic wouldn't run through the Big 8 West??

I thought I would see what Calpreps thought about it, since some on here like to use that site....

neutral field
[2022] Lamar (MO) 38, [2022] Republic (MO) 31

neutral field
[2022] Seneca (MO) 35, [2022] Republic (MO) 34

Guess that solves it....

If nothing else, it shows it would not be a sure thing. Republic should be able to run through the Big 8 West. But the fact is, that it would be far from a certainty.

I don’t think people comprehend how bad some of the COC is.As well as Big 8 currently as well.
