Before last night, when was the last time Cassville and Lamar lost on the same night? It does not happen often.

The Big 8 is loaded this year with Cassville, Seneca, Monett, and Mt. Vernon capable of making a long run in the Class 3 playoffs . Throw in Reeds Spring and Springfield Catholic and you have the toughest Class 3 district in the state. And Lamar could easily have 3 losses by district time, but will be a tough game for anyone in Class 2 Districts in Southwest Missouri. Hopefully, all these teams will make it to districts healthy.

If Lamar beats Cassville and Seneca, I am not sure how you avoid a three way tie in the west without a big upset somewhere else.

The real question is whether the Big 8 is loaded or are their top teams relatively equal and slightly above average? We'll see how their best teams fare in the playoffs.
I could see something similar to last year, a couple semi appearances. With the SCA down, as long as Lamar can build as the season goes they should be able to make it back to the semifinals. Cassville or MV has a strong chance at a semifinal appearance. Haven’t seen Seneca play yet. Monett I think it there on D, if the O can develop a little they have a strong chance as well.

I tend to agree with Honcho on this one. I have seen Monett, Cassville, MV, Lamar, Marshfield, and Reeds play so far. I have seen a couple of interesting games, but havent seen a good team yet. Monett has the best group of athletes, in that group. Seneca may be the dark horse, if they can develop a passing game.

Come district time I think it is going to be an old fashion street fight, hopefully whoever is left standing is healthy enough to make a good run.

There is not one or two dominate teams as there has been in the past but I do think there are 4-5 good teams that can make a run in the playoffs. Time will tell if they will be able to compete with the top teams BO, Trinity, Odessa, etc.

I think the Big 8 is more balanced, but not as good at the top. I think the winner can make some noise, but I don't see a class 3 or class 2 state champion in the Big 8 this year.

I agree unless somebody really gets hot and/or the other side of the state is not as good as they think. I mean it has happened before 2016 everybody was saying Monett was going to get clocked. You don't know until you line up and play who has got what.

Big 8 might be the most balanced conference. Lamar has been a force even against the top teams in class two, but they are coming back down to the pack now. Hard to replace some of the athletes they had over the past 7-8 years. The class 3 teams in the Big 8 are all right their together. Coaching usually shows up in these evenly matched games that will probably be decided by one touchdown or less. However, I do agree with you that the teams are probably only slightly above average. Good teams don't get beat by 30 or 40, and that is whats happened the last couple of years when the Big 8 representative ran into a legit title contender. Personally I think Monett will be the team left standing after district play. I doubt Cassville or Mt. Vernon want to play them again.

Agreed. I want to see Seneca play, before I make a prediction, about post-season play.

Not sure how you can leave Seneca out of the conversation, that win over cAssville is impressive. I heard they had a few key players out and got them back against cAssville, they must be some difference makers.

Mailes was out most of the game against catholic set out against RS and was very limited against Nevada. Other than him we haven’t had any key players injured.

I will be interested to see if Seneca can muster up a passing game. In recent years, their ground and pound philosophy has cost them in big games, when opponents loaded the box, and dared them the pass the ball.

No doubt Seneca is in the conversation. I've followed them for a while, and it seems in late season games if another team loads the box up, and makes them try to consistently pass they really struggle. Maybe it's different this year.

Watched some highlights the other night and it looked like they threw the ball nicely against cAssville.

I think we will see a different Lamar team this week in front of a home crowd and for homecoming. The Monett game was much closer than the final score, and if you take away a few key plays, it could have easily gone the other way. Gonna be fun to watch the big 8 play out this year! Hope the meat grinder can prepare these teams for success in the post-season!

Yeah, if Lamar can find a way to compensate for their off. and def. line play, they might make another run.

Seneca has what it takes to be in the mix, they just need some consistency. They threw the ball better against Cassville than they had all season, which opened the field up for them for sure. Mailes is back which makes their backfield pretty tough. Wilson is runs with the power of a fullback with break away speed. He will actually choose to run over a defender rather than go around them. lol... Fun kid to watch.

Lamar would meet them in the final then. Can it happen? Sure. Likely? No.

Lamar's likely path is much easier, but I'm certain Ava and Centralia are not going to be easy. It's Ritter's class this year, the rest is scenery hate to say.

Is tiebreakers top or bottom of Bracket this year?

If Maryville can get semifinal at the Hound Pound I would give them a small chance.

Nebraska cold fronts in late November can be bitter and effect the game.

The line play should be fine, not as dominate as they have been in past years but should be fine. The Monett game was probably the most uncharacteristic Bailey team I have seen. Missed tackles, untouched fumbles, and players out of position is what doomed them. I could see some of that stuff costing them another game of two during the season but hopefully Bailey can get some of it cleaned up by the playoffs.
