Home of the Cubs!!
Hollister VS Monett,
Hollister has a new coach so lot's of unknown, however still has some pretty decent talent. Monett's however is not void of talent either so this should be a very good game and a good test for both squads.
Aurora VS McDonald County,
Two very talented teams going at it in the first week. Many are predicting this to be the Mustangs Year they did knock off Lamar last year. Aurora has a talented backfeild and alot of kids who have been playing for three years. This will be a really good early test for both schools.
Marshield VS Seneca,
Don't know much about either team, Seneca will be breaking in a new coach.
Mount Vernon VS Cassville,
Both teams look to reload after heavy loses to graduation. Cassville should have another strong year.
Rogersville VS. Nevada,
Got to see Nevada at the Jambo and they were the best school there hands down. Rogersville has a pretty talented QB so this could be a good show down early.
Reeds Spring VS. East Newton,
The Newt returns a ton of talent hearing something like 17 starters returning, so they could be posed to make some noise in the conference this year.
Springfield Catholic VS Lamar,
Lamar is well Lamar, many have already handed them the Class 2 state title without ever having played a game. Catholic however still has some talent so this should be a good test.

Lamar appears to be the only team in the Big 8/14 without question marks. It will be interesting to see who rises from the rubble of the others. The West wont be as dominant as it has been for the past several years. I know there are some good individuals on the East side, just not sure about any team though. Parity does make for some competitve games though.

I think Nevada could be really good and Aurora to take a step. Lamar will be more experienced on both sides of the ball. And expect several sophomores to take big leaps.

I curious to see how Lamar passing game develops this year. Case Tucker will be missed.

If you look at head to head matchups as a whole, top to bottom, it is actually the East that has had the better record through the first few years of the League.

I think Neveda is going to be interesting, many of those players have taken alot of snaps over the last few years and they have alot of kids out. They looked impressive at the Jambo as they put the hammer to Carthage and CJ.
Aurora is another team that has alot of kids back, but still not sure about them, they would put together some good wins last, but then laid some eggs, They beat Monett last year at Monett early but at the end of the year lost to Seneca who Monett handled easly the week before They also beat a pretty decent Nevad team last year along with an opening win over MAC....So just not sure about them? Same with Mac, on paper they look solid they had the impressive win over Lamar last year but then also had some head scratching losses?

Yes the East has had some easy matchups during the season...
But when it comes playoff time the East is still the east and it is the west making the noise.

What happened in the 2017 and 2018 seasons in the playoffs? Take Lamar out of the Big 8 and the Conference is pretty even across the board.

Lamar was outcoached, and playing poor football against MAC.Really they looked bad most games before that as well. At times. 9/10 times Lamar even the following weekend wins that game. After that game Lamar tore through the rest of their opponents outside of title game the rest of the year. Rookie head coach made some head scratching choices during that game.I was at that game didn’t look like Lamar football.

MV went all the way in 17 and was 3-4 in the league, they lost in the semis in 18 and were 5-2 tied I believe? But yeah you are right they were average in the Big 8.
So I think that says more about how tuff the big 8 is across the board....

Was the league really that tough or was there just a lot of similarity amongst the teams, and somebody had to advance? I believe both of those seasons ended with 40+ point losses once they ran into a real state champion caliber opponent. Your 2016 Cubs were the last real good class 3 team to advance in the playoffs from the Big 8.

Eh, Cassville had some unfortunate run ins with a recruited and loaded LNteam out of STL. And last year with Maryville who got hot near the end of season and gave BO a decent game at the title game. Who knows if they would have went back to back to the state game without facing them. Class 3 is currently loaded. BO gets most of the best players from the entire Jefferson City area. Like Webb does with Joplin. (Not claiming recruiting exactly) I don’t think you are giving Built’s argument much actual thought. Only one team wins state. The reason I’m staying the obvious is your argument the conference isn’t good because only Lamar comes out on top. Not every team in the conference has to win state for a team to be good.

Cassville never played LN! They lost to Odessa in 19 at state and lost in the semis to Maryville last year. LN was class 2

I’m fake news. I was thinking and could’ve sworn it was. Still loaded class 3 lol My point although half of it was wrong still stands I feel. Faced very good opponents in a loaded class 3.

Bullit's original statement was that only the West side made any noise come playoff time, which is incorrect. Lamar is always good, and there is usually 1 other team that has shot. The other 12 teams in the conference are average at best most years.

Wow Mt Vernon and Catholic drop to class 2
Nevada and Rogersville Join Monett in class 4.
Is it time to split the conference up by size now? Hard to get good points in district playing class 2 schools.

Nevada and Rogersville were both Class 4 last cycle and Nevada has been since 2015.

Okay I went back and looked and yeah Rogersville was class 4 last year same district, don't know how I missed that?
Nevada does look like they were class 4 last year, but they lost to MV last year before in the playoffs so second year in class 4.

My apologies. I tried to block 2018 and 2019 out of my memory. We were 4 in 2015/16/17 dropped to 3 for 18/19 and were back in 4 last year.
