The reason the interests aligned in the middle east is that President Obama was a garbage president who was terrible in the middle east.
Because Obama decided he was going to forward the aspirations of the Iranian Mullahs and make them a regional power. Obama was going to legitimize their nuclear program, and over time he was going to open up their economy and look the other way on their terrorism, and the attempts to spread their power via regime change a good thing happened.
A coalition of forces arose to fight against Iranian expansion. Egypt, Saudia Arabia, Jordan the UAE, and Israel. These folks decided that their common interest was not to allow Iran to rise to a regional power. So the UAE looked at Israel and said, Ok we are on the same page. The UAE looked at the Palestinian government which has for decades pursued terrorism in conjunction with the Iranian regime, and their factions funded by Iran. They said, hmmm, we don't want a state that is funded by Iran that his helping a state that threatens Israel to get more regional power.
The stupid conventional wisdom that you just solve the conflicts Israel and their neighbors that peace will blossom all across the middle east. All of the far worse sectarian violence that has plagued the middle east would simply go away. Conflicts between Turkey, Iraq, Turkey, and Kurds would simply disappear. All the problems between Syria and Iran would simply go away. Problems between Jordan and Palestinians. All of this would go away if we just focused on the Jews.
It turns out when if we moved the embassy in Israel from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem that war didn't break out because there are many interests in the middle east and none of them have to do with Israel. Trump looked at it and said. no, that's not real and moved it. There are many economic and geopolitical interests in the middle east.
Turns out that Trump saw the reality on the ground that Israel is not going away, and not only is Israel not going away, but the areas that Israel controls that have large Jewish populations also are not going to cede to the Palestinian authority. The recognition of the fact that Palestinian authority is a quasi terrorist group enthralled to terrorist groups. And if they're allowed to acquire the weaponry they'd be a threat to Jordan, Lebanon, Egypt. Arab nations recognizing that Iran was rising and continuing to fund the problems in Syria, Lebanon, Iraq, they saw reality. Let's be friends with Israel. That's all that happened.
Jared Kushner. Great job. Obama Kerry blows. The media are trying to spin it that Obama's leftwing policy of a conciliatory Israel was the only way to make peace. Thomas Friedman in the NYT has a bizarre piece today that pushes this narrative. He's been wrong on everything, he has his head so far off up his booty. It's insane. The Obama administration was wrong on everything in the middle east. Bahahahaha
