Just curious as to everyone's thoughts on the best football region in Missouri? I personally think the best football is played in SOMO, but there has been alot of great things happen at Valle and other places. Just wanting to get everyone's thoughts and maybe some discussion.

Of course I like the KC metro with 42 teams playing football from Class 3 to Class 6, just on the Missouri side. The 12 teams in the Class 6 make it competitive every year.

All my life has either been spent in SCMO, SWMO, or KCMO. And all of those places hold a very special place in my heart. The SCA will always be my conference but as entertaining as that conf is the truth is they haven't really made a big mark statewide. On the other hand, more often than not the Big 8 and COC are top to bottom, pound for pound the best conferences in the state. With multiple state champs year after year.

KCMO is an awesome HS football town. From Harrisonville up to the northern reaches of the KCI and into Platte or Buchanan counties you can find top contenders, playing all sorts of different styles from C1 to C6.

But with all the different schools just north and south of Hwy 60 and I-44 I gotta think pound for pound the best ball is played in SOMO. Of course, the most talent will always be found in the KC and STL areas, but I think that's a different discussion.

Just so we are clear what the regions are.

Definitely Southwest MO. Barton County in particular. Not really even close.

Dear lord here comes MulletMaps (tm).

Except SW Missouri only has 4 Class 6 teams. They have Nixa and Joplin, which is great. But KC has 12 teams in that caliber butting heads weekly. It is a bloodbath.

Dividing into 4 quads and 2 metros I'd rank first blush:

Small schools (1-3)
SWMO
NWMO
SEMO
STL
NEMO
KC

Large schools (4-6)
SWMO
STL
KC
NWMO

SEMO

NEMO

It's heavily slanted to just a few schools continued success. Overall depth wise I'm not sure how to actually come up with a scientific answer. The regions are all so different in their make-up. I do like the topic however.

I don't see how anyone can deny STL has taken over KC on the large school side of things when you look at success at the top. I'd still give a huge edge to KC on overall depth.

Anyhoo to answer the question SWMO as a region is undoubtedly the winner here currently and has been for over a decade.

2022:

Class 6: 7 of the top 10 teams in Class 6 from Kansas City (2 from Stl)
Class 5: 1 team in the top 10 from Stl.
Class 4: 4 of the top 10 from St. Louis.

Yeah, not even close. Bahahaha.

St. Louis produces the best talent
KC area probably best overall teams
Southwest Missouri area best mid-size schools football
Northwest Missouri the 8 man juggernaut

The great thing for the CJs, Carthages and the Webbs...they get to play up with the Big Class 6 teams that are there. Don't get that much in KC if you are C4.

I saw Northeast(KC) play a few years ago, they were Class 4 then. Now that was bad, real bad.......

2 words:

Springfield

Edit: To be fair, Central and Hogan Prep pulled most of the 'good' players from the rest of the IL schools.

It was far worse than that. They were worse than Central without a doubt... But point taken... A BAD Class 2 school throttled them in their first ever Varsity game...

Most astonishing factoid of the day is that Winnetonka has 12 teams ranked lower than them in Class 4. And three of them I listed above.

The hiring in KCMO is odd at times. Lots of favors for friends and such. That extends to coaching and it never works out.

From coaching at NE.

They 'tested' kids to get into central (did back then anyways).

Hogan back then got their pick as long as the kid wasn't a discipline issues
Hogan is not part of the KCMO School District. Never has been.
Lincoln Prep is the only KCMO district high school that has academic requirement for admission that I am aware of.

You are correct. It was Lincoln.

Hogan gets kids from all over the KCMO district though. Not sure why there were so far down this year. I've not seen them like that in forever.

Looked like for a time Lincoln was bringing in the kids that had once made Hogan Prep a power, but I think that time has passed and those kids have dispersed across the metro (LSN got some great move in's this yr)

Next thing he is gonna tell us is Van Horn is in KC MO school district with Truman. Before I coached for Bishop Sycamore, (GO CENTURIANS) I was a coach at Westport High school. We had a great kicker named Al Garcia.

To be fair, my map that is regularly circulated is representative of girls basketball only.

We have Libtardia 1 and Libtardia 2. Then the rest of the state.
