THE OZARKS
The one year that Springfield had a legitimate chance of advancing two teams(Springfield teams) to the winners bracket for the first time in a long time and even possibly winning the tournament of champions for the first time since 2005, it’s cancelled due to COVID

Kickapoo, Greenwood, Hartville, and St. Louis DeSmet will play a tournament on the original TOC dates and at JQH Arena...it'll be called the Springfield R-12 Winter Classic.

Let's see Hartville beat Greenwood last year in the quarterfinals after Greenwood beat Kickapoo, I know that Greenwood and Kickapoo both added to what they had last year, but Hartville will be very competitive I don't think it will be a bloodbath by any means.

So, you can have a tournament in the same facility with 4 teams, but not 8. Got it!
Most likely it is because the out of state teams can't come this year. I'll be interested to se the Poplar Bluff Showdown will happen this year, they always have least 4 or 5 teams from other states and another one or two from St.Louis. I wouldn't even bet on the long standing Bloomfield Tournament getting to play with all teams for the semo area.

It’s because of spectator limits. Without a full house they don’t have enough money to pay the out of state teams.

The TofC features teams from all over the country. What are we even talking about? Are we really expecting a high school tournament to fly teams in from six states, put them up in a hotel and fill up the arena to make it happen?

From my understanding, there was only one out of state team that had to back out. I’m pretty sure this was a decision that was made by the Springfield public schools, The administration, but I could be wrong

True, they did beat Greenwood last year. They also be Dora the first time around and then lost them at home a week later. And the player who’s averaging 30 to 40 points against Hartville now plays for Kickapoo. Both teams have added multiple pieces this year, like it or not Hartville is going to be outclassed. You can’t teach 6’9, 6’8 and 6’7. And the tall players that these teams have aren’t even going to be their best players. Hartville is going to get outrebounded if they face off against either team and that’s going to make the difference. I would be shocked if Hartville could stay within 15 to 20 points of Kickapoo or Greenwood this year. Assuming both teams are healthy.
That being said, Hartville should run the table in class 2

Doesn’t make sense that Springfield public schools would want it canceled. Are they going to cancel the blue and gold too??
I can kind of see the point from a financial Decision with a reduced attendance requirement.

That’s probably the main factor. It can’t be cheap to put these teams up in hotels and feed them for 3-4 days(assuming they cover that) and to pay for use of JQH and every other cost that I’m assuming goes into this when most years, this tournament is at full capacity so a lot of box office money would be missing to offset the costs. But I’m just guessing, don’t know for sure what all goes into it but I could see it being too much of a financial burden.

I didn't say nor think that Hartville win against Greenwood or Kickapoo this year, but me bloodbath is running clock and I see Hartville being able to hang around. As far as the state playoffs go with the new classes Hartville and Greenwood may very well both be class 3.

I believe Greenwood is automatically Class 3 this year with the success factor? I could be wrong.
and after I posted that I had the thought that Hartville may bump up but we won’t find out for sure til it gets closer to the end of the year

Sunrise Christian Academy has replaced DeSmet in the SPS Winter Classic.

The "Success Factor" does not apply to public schools

I said Greenwood due to the success factor, not Hartville.
with the addition of Class 6 to basketball, a lot of schools are going to be bumping up a class, hence why I said we would have to wait to find out about where Hartville will fall as far as the enrollments.
