Can someone explain to me what is the criteria for local SWMO teams to get selected to play in this tournament?

I get Nixa (highly state ranked) - but Parkview?? 🤔

Maybe they’ll beat Sierra Canyon and prove me wrong.

And Catholic was thrown in at the last minute. I do believe they simply look at strength of the team and how long it had been since they was last in the T&C. They try to mix it up on the local side.

Gotcha. Thank you for that. I just realized that PV has beaten some of the better local teams this year…hopefully they will have a good tournament.

SPS is always going to have 1 team in it as they host the tournament. They try to put the best city school or who they think will be and who is more senior laden. Then the other area team is normally the predicted best outside SPS team.

It's changed over time.

In the beginning, SPS went with four Missouri teams (two SPS, and two non-SPS) and then four teams from outside Missouri.

That changed in the early-2000's (they dropped the two SPS teams in the mid-90's), and started just getting 6 really good out-of-Missouri teams.

This year (thanks to Rainier Beach) is a return to how they formatted the tournament in the early days.

As far as which SPS team(s) gets in, it depends on several factors. Kickapoo has had the best teams (and best talent) most years starting in 1994-95. Parkview, Glendale, Hillcrest, and even Central have been given spots here and there when they've been thought of as being "just good enough" to justify putting them in when people have gotten sick of Kickapoo being the team every single year. Glendale's had some bad luck as I think they should've been selected the season before each of their last three appearances. God only knows when they'll ever be in the TOC again. I think it could be like ten years...maybe longer.

Parkview should've/could've beaten Nixa just a few weeks ago, so I wouldn't sleep on them to do well in the consolation bracket. I recall they played quite well without Tyem Freeman in 2019.

I remember from 2007-2011, I recall the Glendale Men’s BB program was pretty good. I’m not exactly sure what happened within the program but I definitely remember some things that occurred within the program that eventually led to it going the other way.
