Maybe I'm in the minority but I much prefer how basketball is played now compared to when I watch old 1970s and 1980s games.

Agreed, if I wanted to watch passing and no scoring I would watch soccer.

If you saw some of the Mizzou-OU games during the 80's and Lakers-Celtics during the Magic-Bird era you might have greater appreciation of the teamwork and passing during that era and less one-on-one moves and nonstop threes. To each his own.

I get tired of the overemphasis on the 3 but I think the overall level of creativity is pretty high because the 3 spaces the floor so much plus it selects for defenders who can actually move their feet.

^^^This^^^ X 100. Hard for me to imagine a better scoring era than the early to mid-80s. Maybe I'm wrong, but that seemed to change with the advent of strong, physical play being allowed (see, not calling fouls). Pistons Bad Boys bunch was the first I remember. Knicks had some teams in the mid to late 80s that could beat you up a bit too. Offense took a huge dive around then.

My high school team averaged in the mid 80s points per game in the early 80s. No single guy averaged more than 18 per game. All 5 starters averaged 10 or more. Many teams were in the 70s and above. That was way before the 3 point line came around. I wonder how many do that now?

I never understood why the league allowed the Pistons to do what they did. That was one of the dirtiest teams ever and got rewarded for it. You're right, it was the beginning of ugly basketball. Duncan and the Spurs kind of helped dig out of that a little.

Excited to watch the Celtics/Lakers 30 for 30 ESPN is putting out in June. I loved that era, the team work, the passion of those series.

Agreed about the 80s game. I was referring to high school ball where a coach micromanages the team. I have seen teams play so slow that the coach tells the players what to do with the ball.

I saw a bunch of games this year in which 6'5, 6'6 kids have no low post moves. Instead of taking it to the hole or shooting over a smaller defender they simply look to pass it out to the three point line. No diversity in their offense. No skills.
