I read today where basketball is a 7 on the 10 scales for the virus. Golf is a 2 tennis is a 1. Wrestling is a 10. I normally work the games announcing the game at the school I taught at for 28 years, until I retired. I am 66 there is no way this season. They will limit attendance to 4 family members per player with no students allowed to attend but it is inside and no ventilation to move air I am not taking the chance.

Flu season is coming up on top of covid. This will be crazy! If you are an A.D. at this point you better get ready for a lot of schedule changes.

We knew it was a longshot. The part that is concerning going into tryouts is all this publicity now of teams having to drop out of the playoffs in football. I just hope they can get a partial season in. I think it will get worse before it gets better, so get the games in now and hope for the best just like football. Waiting to start in January would be a mistake, as the optics aren't going to be better in the middle of flu season.
It is going to crush my son if they cancel basketball.

Which is exactly what people in your age bracket should do if they're not willing to accept risk. No shame in it, and it's probably the safest thing to do.

I'm hoping the election and the batcrappery that will ensue after that will distract enough to leave it all alone. Hopefully the media has other stuff to "report" on for a while.

Springfield teams are going to stick largely to this area in terms of basketball schedules. I hope that doesn't mean Glendale will be forced to play Nixa five times or something. We've lost 15 straight against them, I'd rather the streak not reach 20 in one season!!!

Anyway, SPS (and the Ozark Conf.) will give each school 150 tickets (like football season), but then they'll open up tickets to the public until the gym reaches 50% capacity, which won't be a problem for Parkview, but Glendale & Central will have problems.

This was all strange to me until Wed when my wife and I both tested positive for Covid. We are doing well and will kick this thing, but I cannot see sports not spreading the virus like crazy. We are pretty sure we picked it up in Sunday School from a lady who came to class sick.

I have a very bad feeling we are moving back to March like lockdowns. If we follow the path of Europe like we did last time it's coming, and it SUCKS! Everyday there is another team whose football season is over.
I just have a feeling MSHSAA is going to have no say in the matter, and the counties are going to rule we are back in Phase 1 or whatever it was called where no youth sports could be played.
I would imagine basketball and wrestling become spring sports and the traditional spring sports as well as football? in STL go on as well. If they shutdown college basketball again, I really wonder the ramifications of parents starting to let their sons and daughters redo whatever high school year they are in. Up to this point you had four years of eligibility from the moment you became a freshman. For those looking for scholarships though you might end up having a backlog at the universities since the NCAA has allowed anyone to retain an extra year of eligibility. So, there quite possibly won't be the scholarships there for incoming freshman. Why wouldn't you stay an extra year in college if it is paid for? Sounds like a domino effect could take place if allowed.

summer travel basketball teams played without hardly any issues. the problem is the TOTAL overreaction by our schools, and some school patrons who are absolutely TERRIFIED by this illness. my point is, if you are sick, stay home, if you have been EXPOSEd?........only stay home when you start to catch symptoms. let wrestlers wrestle, and let basketball players play on.

Schools aren’t the ones overreacting.

I doubt if travel ball coaches, players, parents said much of anything about being exposed.

By the time you have symptoms you most likely have exposed several people. Most say you're most contagious right before you show symptoms.

I believe Crystal City HS is having virus problems. I was told yesterday they have shut down their school and athletic programs and canceled their Boys Basketball tournament. Don't take my word on this but this is what I was told by 2 AD's.

Just like football, play the games that you can with the players you have not quarantined. Cancel if a team is widespread. There will plenty of other teams looking for games.

The kids just want to play. If your team has an outbreak at district time or beyond, and has to forfeit, so be it. I appreciate the integrity of the schools' admin who cancelled football and volleyball games instead of trying to cover it up especially at playoff time.

It's not all about winning state. Let the kids play and administrations keep doing the right thing with quarantining players and cancelling games.

Doing the "right thing" by whom? You're right, it's not all about winning state. But it is about the kids and the kids getting to play. Given where this "pandemic" is, that should probably be the focus.
