Tariffs are a tax on the American People HMMMM Well it's a bit more complicated than that, and yes often the U.S. side pays the freight initially but in the long run the hope is that the higher cost will drop the demand for those foreign goods and or spur competition domestically to fill that void or at the least make importers look for other sources outside of China. If those things happened on a large enough scale then America could move away from such a huge reliance on China.

Sure in the short term some goods might increase do to the Tariffs but long term we could see a reduction in price or even some of those products being made in America, if the field was leveled a bit. But hey unlike the Chinese we are not Long term thinkers, we only look quarterly at the economic side of things.

I respond because I find it interesting to analyze their view points. I can really delve into their psychological profiles as well. I'm not trying to change their minds or to help them find some balance. Clearly they are zealots and hardened in their belief structure as many are on both sides of the coin.
