Aurora and/or Big 8 fans...

So how did the National Guard’s slogan become Aurora’s slogan?

I know they are the Houn Dawgs, but I’ve not heard of any other school with an animal (even dog) mascot with a similar slogan o_O

This is what I discovered when I researched this years ago. During WW1, the National Guard was stationed in Aurora .(Old Armory building is still used by School District). A group of soldiers from Aurora had taken a Houn Dawg with them to Germany. One night the dog went missing. It was later mound beaten to death with a note saying that the same would happen to them. The "Don't kick our Dawg" became a battle cry for them. When the soldiers returned home, the National Guard band adopted the slogan, and the mascot and band we're later adopted by the school as well.

GOOD NIGHT ALMIGHTY! I just realized all my typos. Don't know whether to blame that on trying to type on my phone before having coffee, or my Lawrence County education.

In the age thumb-typing and over-active autocorrect, I’m well past judging a person’s intellect by their typos (in fact, for so many these days, doing so seems to have become a crutch to fall back on when they’ve run out of valid points :D)

I know I personally haven’t posted to this site from a computer in years
