Anyone know why Sumner isn't participating in the 2016-2017 playoff cycle?

Just wondered if there was any insight on this. Sad to see a once strong program drop off. (4 State titles )They only had 1 win this season against Cleveland NJROTC.

Did some Google searching. It sounds like they have combined Northwest Academy and Sumner for football in one of the articles I read. Also the neighborhood is in quit a decline. Sad to read about.

If you live north of Washington and west of Tucker in the city, you're a braver man than me. It's never been a tremendous area, but man there are some serious issues there the last 5-10 yrs.

The area of the City, North of Washington and West of Tucker used to be the population center of the City. It includes the Baden Neighborhood, which for decades was the densest German-American neighborhood West of The Mississippi. The "Ville" neighborhood where Sumner is located was an affluent neighborhood for upper-middle class Black professionals for decades. St. Louis North of Market St. is mirrored by the City South of Market. The streets, houses and communities are very similar to one another architecturally and in terms of street layout. Sumner's neighborhood is mirrored by St. Louis Hills in South City ... but they are drastically different now.

True dat. I remember it being a nice-ish place as a kid back in the early 80s. Dad worked for UP out of Dupo IL. And brother lived in a couple different places near Carondelet, and had an aunt that lived near Bevo. Different part of the city, but I think I knew it all pretty well growing up. Just a totally different dynamic now.

Had a drive by shooting at a game on Sumners field last year, all the players hit the ground,,then after 15 minutes the all clear was given and play resumed.

No visiting team should have to worry about being shot while making a tackle
