Best offense? Best defense? Best of whatever?
Odessa offense and Webb City defense were both pretty impressive. I did not see the Class 2 or Class 6 games, so can't really include them.

I watched Class 2, 3, 4, 5 games. I was also impressed with Webb City and Odessa. I thought they were the best teams there this year. I thought both QB's were very good at what their teams asked them to do. I'm not sure what you do to stop the Odessa offense. Very balanced. Good across the board. The class 2 game was one of the worst championship games I've seen in a long time.

Webb city was the best team I watched. Lincoln's offense was incredibly talented especially for a class 1 team. Webb's defense was suffocating as usual.

Webb defense, Odessa Offense.

Lincoln offense was impressive as well.

Class 6 the week before, De Smet obviously had talent all over the field, but Joplin's offense with Davis and Westmoreland were very impressive to watch as well. Not many had Joplin hanging around like they did.

The thing I thought was cool about Webb City. Their O-line was massive and very good, but what impressed me more was their defense only had one kid over 200 lbs! They were crazy fast, and no one was able to run the ball on them. Even with 180 pound defensive ends.

I saw every game class 1-5.

Jackson had way too many mistakes to win but was better than Carthage.

Webb by far the best team overall.

Odessa was very impressive for a class 3. Probably would've done very well in class 4 (assuming no Webb).

Ava looked like they had no business being in that game. Not sure if LN that good or Ava had injuries, but Ava was awful.

Lincoln QB was a great player but all they had. Valle had a ton of really good players.

Watched Class 5 on TV. I thought Carthage was the better team. Couldn't figure out how Jackson stayed in the game. Credit to them for almost pulling it off, though.
From the way it was described to me, I wonder if Ava came in even attempting to win the game or just trying to get it over with?

I thought Ava was a good class 2 team. LN was just on another level. LN looked like they could compete in higher classes just fine.

I wasn't sure on Ava.

Being that Lathrop played LN so well I figured Ava just wasn't good (not saying they're bad just not an elite class 2 team).

There have been a few cases where I’ve thought the better team lost through various weird circumstances but I don’t see it here. Sure Jackson made mistakes and maybe they could have won if they hadn’t... but if we’re going to explore what-ifs....take out just a couple Carthage mistakes and it’s a lopsided 35-7 Carthage win. Take out both teams mistakes and we probably end up just taking a different path to the same score.

It's amazing the difference between the two brackets. There's at minimum 4 teams from the other side that could have ran through Ava's road (LN, Lathrop, Maryville, Lift for Life). Not suprising, but it is curious how stark the contrast was especially when you factor in the cross bracketing.

You're an idiot. Had CARTHAGE not made 2 silly mistakes, it would've been 21 or 28-0 at half. Carthage's D line completely shut down their running game and the secondary nearly completely shut down their passing game Probably very close to a season low in yardage for them. Carthage gave them several chances to take the game and they just couldn't do it.

I agree totally. Carthage was very lucky. Lucky to have a 96 yard TD run called back for holding and still maintain 244 to 107 yard advantage in rushing. Totally lucky they didn’t have 2 or maybe even 3 more balls bounce off their receiver’s hands and get returned for a pick 6. I mean the one the Indians had worked just the way they drew it up. Not sure why the defense didn’t call that play a few more times in the game? Complete luck that even though the defense sold out to stop the run that the Tigers averaged 4.2 yards per carry. Especially considering the Tigers total lack of physicality. Carthage was inferior and somehow stole one.

Now don’t get me wrong. I am not bashing Jackson in the least and I am not saying some breaks didn’t go against them. Hard fought gritty game played by both teams. In the end I believe Carthage was the more physical team and deserved the victory. They were the slightly better team that night.

Best performance by a public school was WC. I watched a couple regular season games but they were vastly improved for December. Impressive 3 game run to end the season. So question for the Webbies, how many seniors will be playing football on Saturdays?

I doubt you have a single D1 guy? That much more impressive for your team and coach.

Interested in hearing your top returning underclassman? Returning Lineman?

And that is a school with an actual enrollment that is class 1. Imagine what they would have done in class 1.

Big junior class returning. Most of the holes will be on defensive side but have #2s who played and contributed plenty this year ready to step in. 3 OL starters this year were COC all-conference selections returning next year. QB2 started several games this year, a little better thrower than this years QB1. Weathers back at RB. The system is poised and ready to go for #16 next year. If it is in class 5 bring it on. Won’t change much with who the opponents will be from any other year until quarterfinals or semifinals and WC has done pretty good up till now. 90-100 kids out for football in 3 grades is impressive.

And Class 5 is ho-hum right now.

Good call, I agree. Ava did have the easier road for sure. I think class 4 was the same way. Not taking anything away from Platte because they earned their spot to be there but I think there were 3-4 teams from the other side that could have went through Platte's road.
