I'm old enough to remember when Otterville offered boys softball in the fall. They played in the "unofficial" state tournament in Chillicothe a few times before 8-man FB just started blowing up. Have they been playing fall baseball?Big news... Otterville and NW Hughesville have combined to form an 8 man team... Remember when NW started its own football team because Tim Barnes was coming through?
How many kids moved there thinking they were going to play at the other Northwest, only to realize they ended up in Hughesville and not Maryville... Imagine living in Hughesville and having to go to Sedalia for anything other than probably a dollar gen. I'd rather drive in rush hour traffic in KC or STL than try to get across 50 in Sedalia.
Found my answer: Yes, Otterville plays fall baseball.I'm old enough to remember when Otterville offered boys softball in the fall. They played in the "unofficial" state tournament in Chillicothe a few times before 8-man FB just started blowing up. Have they been playing fall baseball?
Are you sure? Northwest was pretty solid in 04 and 05 when they had the Barnes brothers. The reason I say this is in 2009 Cole Camp, Lincoln, Northwest, and Sacred Heart all four guaranteed Tipton and Windsor a 6 team 11 man conference if they joined in 2010. Northwest immediately backed out and tried to take Windsor's place in the I-70 guaranteeing them they would stay 11 man. When the I-70 said no thanks they were stuck in the Kaysinger. I know in 2009 Northwest started picking and choosing in 11 man and 8 man who they wanted to play and won quite a few games doing that. One year, Northwest did a co-op with La Monte, got 2 kids from them, and had to play 11 man because of the enrollment increase when the Barnes brothers were in school.
I thought Tim Barnes senior year was 05?08 and 09 Co-Op with LaMonte. They still played many 8-Man schools but were in C1 districts.
That split almost happened a couple of years ago. It seems LT tried to claim they lost GC, so they could get Greenfield to coop and preserve 11-man, but we know how that turned out. GC is fortunate the blood is bad in Dade County. As for GC being able to 8-man alone, they haven't been able to field a baseball team as of recently. Hope that changes soon.Golden City to split with Lockwood. Get those round bales off the old field.
I just made all of that up..
GC players carried lockwood more years than not in my opinion. That goes back a long ways. That split almost happened a couple of years ago. Yes, some coops do make me wonder. The Lockwood-GC one seems to have both towns well involved as they're only 8 miles apart. However, the Stockton-Sheldon Coop seems wild. They're 37 minutes apart, and that would be quite a round trip to attend daily football practice after school. Of course, I'm not an expert on how all of these setups work, but some do seem more natural than others.GC players carried lockwood more years than not in my opinion. That goes back a long ways.
I can still remember a long time ago telling our friends from Dade county that 8 man was coming and they laughed it off.
welp.
Co-ops are a weird bird. I know some around this area the 'hometown' kids get some preference and the coaches don't even expend any effort to get the 'other school' involved in things. They show up once a year for about 30 mins and expect a multitude of prepared players to go out.
Best I remember is Sheldon wanted their own team and to co-op with NEVC but they had to be passed up by the surrounding teams for co-ops. Northwest Hughesville currently plays in the I-70 Division of the Central River League for football with Concordia, Norborne/Hardin-Central, Orrick, St. Paul Lutheran, Santa Fe and Sweet Springs. The North Division is Braymer, Knox County, North Shelby, Paris, Slater (playing Keytesville’s schedule since the Thunder are JV-only in 2023), Schuyler County and Southwest Livingston.Northwest is stiffing around to join the I-70 once again.
Is there a MSHSAA requirement that they must receive rejections from every neighboring district that has football? If so, wow. I'd think a Sheldon-Northeast Vernon would be a great coop program and a nice addition for that county. Interesting.Best I remember is Sheldon wanted their own team and to co-op with NEVC but they had to be passed up by the surrounding teams for co-ops. Jason West at MSHSAA told me a couple of years ago that the neighboring districts have to be contacted, and they have to reject the request, before a school can ask to join a different co-op. Example: North Harrison wanted to send kids to Pattonsburg but had to ask South Harrison to co-op with them first. SH said no. NH then went to Pattonsburg and helped them light up some scoreboards. Is there a MSHSAA requirement that they must receive rejections from every neighboring district that has football? If so, wow. Kind of weird move by Stockton. Is there a MSHSAA requirement that they must receive rejections from every neighboring district that has football? If so, wow. I'd think a Sheldon-Northeast Vernon would be a great coop program and a nice addition for that county. Interesting.
Stockton has a lot of room in class 2. They also could bring in NEVC and stay under the C2 cap? Can you even do that?Kind of weird move by Stockton.
Weird being kind.

It's been a long summer. We needed something to talk about. Are people really still talking about 8 man football!? I guess people do enjoy naps
Fixed it!It's been a long summer. We needed something to nap about.
Many 11-man teams also have co-ops. You just have to combine the two (or three) schools enrollment for class assignment.I think only 8-man can coop with more than one school... someone with more knowledge can correct me on this. Also, Lockwood tried a coop with Greenfield a few years ago to preserve 11-man, but Greenfield was not about to submit to having their boys wear red and black with LT on the helmets. The blood is bad in Dade County. Bad enough to definitely not make a necessary cooperation. Imagine if there is ever a push from the state to consolidate the schools there.
Pg 31 in the MSHSAA Handbook: Any sport that has a starting lineup of 8 or more can have 3 schools coop. Many 11-man teams also have co-ops. You just have to combine the two (or three) schools enrollment for class assignment.

not sure kearneymomville should be talking about anything like that.Mount Pilot fired their coach, Gomer Pyle. They caught him playing with his Andy Griffith behind the water tower.
