The experts are now predicting a surge in infections due to the highly infectious variants of covid. The CDC and Center of Disease Control have been very accurate thus far in predicting the pathology of covid spread. Predictions are that 200,000 more deaths in US by the end of May.
Indications are that the vaccines are effective in treating the new strains of covid, and people that are vaccinated that get sick are not requiring hospitalization or dying. But the new strains spread much quicker than before, and people not vaccinated are entering the most highly dangerous period thus far in the pandemic.
Let's remember that the 1918 Spanish flu pandemic was actually a 1918-1920 pandemic. My uncle died in 1920 from the previous pandemic, and 1920 was the worst year for deaths in my area. My dad told stories of nearly entire families dying of the flu when his brother died.
