Anniversary of the 5th Down Play

For starters, this may be the first time in college football history that fans of the losing team tore down a goal post.

''They didn't even score on the fifth play, '' Missouri defensive coordinator Michael Church said. ''When we see the film, we'll see that he did not cross the goal line.''

When asked about appealing the play, Mizzou coach Bob Stull said, ''It doesn't make any difference. If we stop them on fifth down, we win.''

I was in the Saudi desert at the time, and didn't find out about it until the next summer. Still can't believe the result stood.

Look at the bright side, men: On this date in 1956, Oklahoma set a national record of 32 straight wins (breaking its own record, 31) and a conference record 54 straight wins by beating kU* 66-0. Some things never change; that is, OU stomping the fake birds. :D

That was when Kansas had 11 man football

If the turf wasn't so God awful Colorado would've won by multiple scores, but Mizzou still got screwed by the worst officiating in sports history: A group of officials forgot how to count and got the final play wrong.
