An idea for a JCAA vs MAAA shootout

i have an idea of a potential shootout for the two conferences that I think may be gaining traction but time will tell if it comes to fruition. What I would love to see is the two conferences play head to head in a seeded format. Here's how it would work. The MAAA conference would seed their teams 1-12. The JCAA would have to add a school to have the required 12. Seckman would be perfect. They would seed 1-12. From there the one seeds play, the two seeds, the threes in down to 12. The location could be done one of two ways. You could have 4 games on Friday and 8 on Saturday or maybe play all odd seed games at Park Hills and even numbered seeds at a Jefferson County location. Then the following year flip and play odds in Jeffco and even at park hills. My other thought is do not use Jefferson College. It is too big, I would rather use DeSoto. The gym is great and would allow for a better atmosphere. The Park Hills gym is the crown jewel in our region and too many kids don't get to play there as the Sechrest tourney is too hard to get into. Not to mention too many schools are just not able to compete at that level. This shootout format would allow teams to play a competitive game in a great location in front of a nice crowd. Scheduling conflicts can be worked out, I just don't see why this can't work. What say you?

I really do think this is a good idea. Have always thought MAAA should get rid of their conference tournament or move it to the beginning of the year and then somehow link up with Jeff Co teams later in the year either via shootout or tournament. Some interesting scores from the Park Hills Central Christmas Tournament last night involving MAAA and Jefferson County. I am not sure how people would rank the Jefferson County teams right now ( I would think people would consider Festus #1). West County (likely around #4 of MAAA) beat Festus, Park Hills beat Crystal City, North County beat Perryville, Farmington beat Hillsboro. Good night for the MAAA. Jefferson County seems a little down right now but that is just based on the few games I have seen. I have also seen PHC beat Pius and North County beat Desoto a couple of times. All Saint Francois County (and MAAA) semifinals in the Park Hills Christmas tournament tonight. Doesn't happen very often.

I was a little surprised by a few of the games last night. I expected Festus to get by West County simply because I thought they were a better team and I expected the Bulldogs to get tired after the Ste Gen game. I also had Perryville as my sleeper team but I tip my hat to the MAAA teams they played well and showed some real guts. The Rebels look unbeatable right now.
As far as a future cross conference shootout goes, last nights atmosphere is exactly why I would love to see all 24 teams somehow get to play in that place. There is nothing else like it around.

Great week of games at the Xmas tournament.

As far as West County ... the darlings of St. Francois county officials, if they had the same home cooking against Festus as they did vs prior round opponent its no wonder they upset the #2 seed Festus.

So many West County walks not called by a few local refs including the shot that forced OT. The ref apparently and I quote 'didn't want to take the ball out of his hands' at the end of regulation by calling the walk.

My feelings on that is if you aren't gonna call the last 20 seconds of the game, just drop your whistle off at the scorers table and go home and leave your check behind too. They did very well 'calling' the rest of the game as West County shot twice the number of free throws as well.

Then after the game instead of getting their butts off the floor, one ref congratulates the West County coach while the other hugs it out with a West County player. Ah yes ... MAAA St.Francois county home cooking at its best. Not the first time and won't be the last time. I know that crew is considered one of the best around, but it was not one of their finer moments to be sure.

I guess they forgot to give them the home cooking against nc last night! Sounds like a festus fan is a little upset

If anyone needs to find a definition of "sour grapes", just read hailtothevictors post. West County definitely did NOT get the home cooking last night. Many of the St. Francois County home cooking refs that he likely refers to are from or live in Jefferson County.

I would hate to see the MAAA get rid of or move their conference tournament. I like it at the end of conference play so seeds are determined by conference record and not votes. It is one of the best run tournaments I have ever been involved in.

I like that too, the SEMO tourney is at the beginning when not many games have been played. Never has made sense to me.

Doesn't the MAAA have some kind of shootout at Mineral Area College in early December or am I mistaken?
I just love the idea of having 24 teams being able to walk in to a gym, whether at Park Hills, Jefferson College, DeSoto or wherever it is in a given year and having a chance to win. That is where the top schools of each conference need to look at the smaller schools of the conference. Sure the Sechrest tourney, conference tourney, etc sound great to the likes of Park Hills, Farmington, etc. But what about the bottom half of the conferences? I am sure they love the chance to play in the Rebels gym. but at the end of the night a 40 point loss sure takes some of the glamour out of the experience.

the dynamic is a little different in the past few years because the JCC is down. Hillsboro is a little off what they have been in the past and De Soto is WAY down in the last three years. Herculaneum has also been very poor recently. St. Pius and Grandview are up a little, but overall the conference is much more top heavy. One does not figure this to continue much longer. The MAAA has some nice depth, and has good parity overall until you get to the last three or four schools. Of course on a given night, most schools in the area could go either way with most other schools. De Soto and North County have already split a pair this year. I think the shootout would be fun. I am just glad that the JCC did not decide to go to a Conference Tournament. I know a lot of MAAA folks love it, but De Soto, Hillsboro, and Festus already play in two of the same tournaments plus regular season games. Don't need to see more of it.

I heard Hillsboro beat Park Hills tonight.

I heard that also. The Hawks are playing very well right now. I believe Festus plays Central in the next week or so as well so that may be a fun game to watch as well.

Hillsboro did beat the Rebels last night 63-56. Rebels had chances to tie inside a minute and fouls late pulled it out to 7. Schwartz kid is very athletic for Hillsboro. If you would've told me going into it that Pinkley would only have 7 points through 3 quarters, I'd say the Rebs would win, but too many bad turnovers and missed shots at the end.
