Ambulance

I don’t know if it’s a MSHSAA requirement or if it’s based on school district policy, league policy or local municipalities that require it.
I will say this, in 30+ years of watching, attending and covering high school football in Southwest Missouri, Southeast Kansas and Northeast Oklahoma I don’t recall too many games where an ambulance was not present on standby and more often than not at least one if not two fire department apparatus usually first response trucks such as a rescue squad or rescue truck.
I would like to say a special thank you to METS of Joplin, all the fire departments in Joplin, Webb City, Carl Junction, Carthage, Neosho, Seneca, Diamond, Jasper, Sarcoxie, Granby and all the others for service, being present and visible at the games and those agencies who do a little extra such as flying the flag from a ladder truck at Webb City or flashing lights when East Newton scores in Granby. Your presence and support are noticed and appreciated.

That said, my hometown of Coffeyville, Kansas has some ongoing controversy as the fire department would often stage at the games in support of the ambulance and to be present in support of the teams. The city manager put an end to the practice and said it was unnecessary. A disagreement followed, the fire chief lost his job and the residents of Coffeyville have lost confidence in the city manager and he is resigning at the end of the year. Which is why I don’t take our local first responders for granted when they are at football games because not every community has it as good as we do here.

Thank you fire, EMS and police officers who work games on Friday nights…

I hate not seeing an ambulance at games and yes I unfortunately think less of towns when they dont

I believe the rule is to be able to contact one if needed. I've been to games without an ambulance.
Many small towns likely don't have more than 1-2 so have to be on call for any emergency. As long as they are nearby and notified when home games are happening that should suffice.

It is recommended but not required as most are county ambulance districts and may not have enough to cover every game. More than once I have seen an ambulance at a small school being called away to cover an emergency elsewhere.

PRECISELY. We had a situation at Kearney week one in the raging heat. Ambulance district is right in town and arrived within 5 minutes of the call for a Platte Co player.

The Helias at Smithville game. It seemed it took forever to get an ambulance for that poor kid with the broken leg. That was the first game I had been to without one on site.

One was needed at East Buchanan and St Michael’s game. Had to be called by EB administrator. Thanks for answers
