All State Surprises and Snubs

I didn't see the kickers from Marceline and Valle but they must have been REAL special to beat out Nick Johnson of Miller in class one.

Not all state, but Isaiah Davis getting the Missouri GPOTY award was a surprise. I didn't realize the statistical performance than young man put up this year. Truly incredible

The qb from slater not making it is a surprised Also the Lincoln D end not getting defensive player of the year is a miss. Valle has a lot of good players but no stand outs like the Lincoln d end.

I saw him get off the bus after they returned home from the semi-final game and he could barely walk across the parking lot. He had an incredible season and he put it all on the field every week. I'm a fan. I hope he has great success at SDSU, he deserves it.

The other 3 starting offensive linemen from Webb City getting absolutely nothing is really unbelievable. They were as dominate as any OLINE in Webb City HISTORY! What a joke

You do know how the all this works right, I am not taking anything away from them, but is possible the voting members thought there were others that were better? The Webb head coach is on the committee as well, 2 from each district.

If the Ava QB was picked 2nd team but was selected POY, the coaches in that room did not follow the by-laws set forth by the organization.

To think, say or suggest 5 of the 15 best offensive linemen in Class 4 all played for just 1 of the possible 64 schools is either trolling or homerism.

Not to mention, they would have to be designated as 1st team all district by THEIR head coach, and they weren't.

All I said is that it was a joke that they got zero recognition in either all district or all state. Not saying all 5 were the best in the state, just that the other 3 deserve some kind of recognition. You don’t average 400 yards+ rushing in the state portion of the playoffs without excellent interior line play. People can have their own opinions but this was the best o line Webb has had since at least 2014. They were playing on a different level since the Camdenton game!

hes been limping like that during and after many of the games hes played in this year.

LN coach not being coach of year in Class 2. Thought state winner almost automatically COY. I agree though he didnt get it. A ball boy could be coach and win with that talent.

Just curious was Cardinal Ritter players ineligible for state voting?

I was honestly surprised that Coach Jasper from Joplin didn’t get Class 6 COY.
And yes, I understand they didn’t win state, I just feel like from an expectation standpoint, Joplin more than exceeded expectations as opposed to DeSmet who had pretty much been the favorite to win it all throughout the season.

Not to knock Coach Jasper, but I did expect Joplin to get there. They lost in the semi-final last year, only because they had to go through CBC. When I saw they didn't have to play CBC or De Smet to get to the final, I thought they would get there. Their key position players were all back. But, I still thought he should have won the award. He did more with less, IMO.

Whoever wins the championship should win the award. Giving it to a coach who's team got drubbed in the title game, while attempting 2 passes, is ridiculous.

I disagree. If a coach takes a team with lesser talent and can coach them to the championship game they deserve recognition. Many great coaches that dont get recognized, congrats to coach Swofford.

Their reward was being in a bracket that allowed them to get to the title game.

Having coached against ava and coach swafford, I can guarantee you he does more with less than many playoff teams. It takes good coaching to reach the champ9, having d1 players versus 1 NAIA player is a heck of a difference. Maybe coach Holt should be coach of the yr.

Both guys had great years and deserved to be recognized, but I probably would have flipped Brady Cook and Cairo Payne, put Cook at QB and Payne at ATH.

That is kind of nitpicking a bit, but that would have made sense.
