AFL/NFL Merger. ( and the 1969 Season.)

Only because there is nothing happening in FB for months am I bringing this here:

I was assaulted online for daring to say the AFL's top three teams were superior in a power rating to the NFL's top teams in 1969. To me, it was obvious...leading me to believe the AFL could have become the dominant league if there were no merger announced in 1966. You can watch the "Football in Color" series for facts backing this up in terms of drafts and contracts. Nothing convinces me that the Vikings could have stayed on the field with the Jets that year, either.

The AFL was benefiting from only having 10 teams versus the NFL's 16 teams. The AFL was scoring the majority of the top recruits for several years running (the Chiefs had two Heisman trophy winners on the 69 squad.)

My Power Ranking for 1969

1. AFL Chiefs (13-3) PF 359 PA 177 Super Bowl Champs. (Allowed only 20 points in playoffs and 67 yards in the SB.)
2. AFL Raiders (12-2-1) Beat the Chiefs twice. Division Champs. PF 377 PA 242
3. AFL NY Jets (10-5) Lost close game to the Chiefs in first playoff round.
4. NFL Vikings 12-3 (Dominated by the Chiefs in SB.)
5. NFL Dallas 11-3-1
6. NFL LA Rams 11-4

At least the Jets stayed on the field with the Chiefs. Al Davis was well on his way to leading the AFL into being the top league.

Was this the last year the Chiefs won a playoff game?

Meanwhile the Queens have won as many playoff games since 2000 as the Chiefs have since that Super Bowl.

This is the first sports season I can remember growing up. Mizzou was good that year. The Royals had their first year. The Chiefs were in their 2nd Super Bowl in 4 years, and won! Good times!

Honest question, would you rather win one and lose one, or lose 4, or even worse, lose 4 in a row?

That's kind of a loaded question. Does it mean the team battles mediocrity for the next forty years? Ofcoures I would love to see the Vikings win a Super Bowl. That as a sports moment would mean more to me than seeing the Cards, Blues or Nole's do it. On the other end I am glad more times than not over my lifetime I have watched the Vikings put together competitive teams. Since the early 90's I have had the pleasure of watching a handful of HOF go through their system. Put up great teams that just never could get it done when it mattered.

The Vikings lost four before I was even born. The Chiefs won theirs before I was born. If you're wanting to compare what has happened in my lifetime it's not even close.

So I guess I will take the four losses and track record since then than the one win.

Kind of like up until 2006, would I rather be a Royals fan because they won a WS more recently or a Cardinals fan, despite how mediocre/terrible the Royals had been.
