This week, Monett's state champion football players received their championship rings, and even though the moment was sweet for them, it was one of the team's managers that was caught savoring his moment to the fullest effect.
Billy Long, 18, a junior at Monett who lives with Down syndrome, saw his teammates, and even his own brother, junior Adam Long, receive their rings on Thursday.
According to his mother, Tina Obermann, Billy was sad about not receiving one. Little did he know, that was about to change.
Long's brother said Coach Derrek Uhl gave him Billy's ring on Friday, and Obermann told him to wait to give it to her son, wanting to surprise him with it when the whole family got home.
Billy's reaction was one to remember.
"He was sad," Obermann said. "But now, he's been wearing the ring around the house all day.
